There's some organised cloud over towards the western horizon but only high, wispy stuff elsewhere allowing for a bright start to the day, although chilly again.

Temperature is currently 5.4 deg.C and the minimum last night was 2.6 deg.C at 04:52, r.h. is 98%, there's no wind, pressure is rising slowly at 1017.9 hPa, and there's been no rain since midnight.

A perfect day to take a walk later with my daughter and get some lunch somewhere locally.

A rather bright morning here. So home teaching today will mostly be spent at the local beach. See if we spot some seals while also learning about them and the surrounding environment. Might as well make the most of what looks like the last real usable day for the next week or so.

I'm gonna pop into the mad House to see when the snaw is arriving

Looks like Canada is a go for a holiday in November into December, should be a bit snowy by then

Aye a 2010 redux maybe still gets me excited 10 years later

I think some folk in parts of the NE/E/SE might need a boat by the end of this weekend to get about.

I blame @CatchMyDrift for posting about a dry September.

Mountain Outlook looking very wet and windy.

https://mwis.org.uk

Planning Outlook:

Low pressure and fronts will move in from the Atlantic during midweek, bringing heavy rain to west and south facing mountains on Wednesday. Generally low pressure is then expected to persist across Britain through into the weekend, although conditions will vary from day to day. Some days escaping dry, but expect areas of persistent and heavy rain, mixed with clusters of heavy showers. Close to freezing on highest tops Thursday and Friday, then warmer air is likely to be drawn in from the southeast. Winds also varied, marked lulls, but sometimes widely gale force on the hills.

@Mair Snaw If you want a snow fix head to @Kirkcaldy Weather snow and ice thread - great stuff in there at the moment! Cracking pictures from @carinthian as well in the Austria and Worldwide mountain snow thread.

Glorious stuff up North last night I see!

Aurora and rare moonbows light up the night: Link below.

With regards to Winter 2020/21 I’m just going to sit back and see what happens! Totally ignoring all long range predictions/outlooks! Local 400 meters hill already marked out as my snow fix spot. Hopefully see more than one centimetre settle at sea level here this Winter.

Last Winter was an absolute stinker - can’t be any worse this year! Can it!?

The Monday is the day I particularly remember as I had to get my daughter to the airport as she was leaving for her ski season job. Surprisingly, none of the flights were delayed. Oh to experience a winter of that calibre again!

@Mair Snaw where can I find this mad house?

@Sanserit its what we call the model output discussion thread. In winter months it turns into a place best avoided for your own sanity.. some of us in here pop in to stir the S**t pot when we have snaw and those South of the border dont.. i normally get myself in trouble for it mind.. but this winter I'm gonna be a good boy..

There's far more chance of us having an extreme cold & snowy winter than there is of you behaving yourself in the MOD thread.

Glorious day here so my morning supposedly working from home didn't quite work out that way, and my afternoon in school consisted of outdoor learning, in other words I took the pupils for a walk to the River Don & back.

A very pleasant day that stayed bright and dry although coolish at a maximum of 14.8 deg.C at 14:24, which was when I was out taking my knackered knees and lungs for a walk.

It was a cracking day today, with some warm sunshine this afternoon. From a low of 1.6 at 7am, to a high of 17.7 at 4pm it was a day to savour, shame I was indoors for the best part of it.

One of our consultants dropped off soil samples from a Deeside client for me to book in, parcel up and send to our labs in Edinburgh, 11 from barley parks and 2 from grass and I've never seen so many bags of dust! I'm used to soil samples being fairly damp with it clumping in the bags. The soil augers drill down around 8-10 inches so apparently it was hard to get decent samples with it being so dry.

A fair bit of weather about this morning with rain and wind making a seasonal return.

Temperature currently 11.2 deg.C up from overnight minimum of 8.8 deg.C, r.h. 92%, wind at 3 to 7 mph generally and from a slightly west of southerly direction, pressure at 999.6 hPa falling, there's been 3.2 mm of rain since it started just after 04:00, and the sky is completely covered in low cloud, which is chasing briskly northwards.

It remained pretty dismal here too.

Haven't left the house today. Didn't feel the need to.

Rain and associated low cloud and grey skies cleared around 8.45am - with a defined edge to blue sky and sunshine. Now a mixed bag of cloud/sun. The transition is heading north and east - so there's hope yet! Low of 6.4C last night.
