More relentless misery! August is fast becoming the worst month of the year - as @CatchMyDrift pointed out this is now the 2nd washout August in a row! It's beyond depressing!

Dull dreich day again with just a  few spots of rain.Maximum of 14 c.Mountain forecast for tomorrow has snow and hail showers for the summits so definitely an autumn feel to it. Written yesterday and now with showery start to the day we have a bright cool dry clearence from the north at 11c .A very autumnal feel to the day.

Well somehow managed to get in the drier slot yesterday tho the wrf nmm did pick that up, so looks like my monthly total will be finishing on or close to the current 188mm over 3 times the August average crazy stuff! At least some drier weather and chillier nights to come 904E8E80-E1F1-4572-A3D1-B3D34B8F0A88.thumb.png.c571bf29aa5705e965dda12634310177.png Do wonder if this autumn will revert back to the more typical stormy stuff we would expect after the last few years being quite quiet on the storm front, with all the stuff going on with the hurricanes it wouldn’t surprise me plenty of warm SST’s for storm development C08AF570-5D39-4686-AD9F-96E3F11C1434.thumb.png.570988ca745f27335e1369a02c9371fc.png

Very nice day all in all. Did have one quick shower mid afternoon. Can definitely feel the difference in the temperature this evening.

Hope everybody has a wonderful Friday evening. What is everybody drinking? I've a few odd beers tonight.

Broughton Brewery Wee Jock. My session beer here...

Howling northerly, blowing down the lum, but looking north from the back hill you wouldn't necessarily think so:

A bit showery today so no field work . Took off for a drive up to Grantown tonight to get a small winter fix as wintry looking showers rolled in off the Firth from the NE

Started off at 11c and fell to 7c on the moors so showers on the summits must be snow.Very wintry looking cloud over the Cairngorms coloured pink in the setting sun.. As others have mentioned  the heather is a stunning shade of purple this year

Best day of the week.

Max of 15c in the sunny spells that came and went sporadically through the day.

When the sun was not out, downright parky feeling in the moderate N/NE wind.

Unexpected two hour period of rain this evening, not overly heavy but drenching enough; now cleared and feeling cold outside with your breath noticeable in the air.

Cloudy again this morning. Wet overnight and a stiff breeze that has a chill to it that is very noticeable as well.

In between the showers, it’s a pretty decent day. Just wish they’d skirt round us tho as dismantling my old shed ready for a new one being built next week and everything that was in it getting wet while I try to find places to store it in the other shed.

Afternoon all,

That was pretty much the week from hell, weather wise, for August. Today has been the best day of the week but it’s cool and breezy with limited glimpses of the sun. Afternoon temperatures were around 14c.

The sunshine totals (in hours) for Edinburgh (Gogarbank) tell the story: a lovely sunny spring and a hugely disappointing summer, representative of NE Fife too (though we did rather better in July than Edinburgh). The meteorological spring (March to May) saw way more sunshine than summer. I mean June and July were only just sunnier than March!

March 111.5

April 190.7

May 228.5

June 115

July 117.6

August 81 (to date)

Cold day for the time of year with a strong northerly wind and light showers.

This is getting silly now, max of 11c at the end of August...

Light showers, a few sunny intervals - when the two coincided some decent rainbows...

Already 7c outside, going to get pretty cool me thinks.

A cool start to the day 8c at 7am. Was bright to start with but cloud starting to build in now and that cool breeze continues.

Mrs Snaw has been busy up in the loft sorting out Christmas decorations that we no longer need because they no longer go with our decor..

Much better day, even felt like summer for a couple of hours in the afternoon when the sun was out.

Light winds, dry and mainly cloudy bar a good sunny period in the mid-afternoon.

That unsurprisingly coincided with the max temperature of 15c.

The lengthening nights partially compensated for by the lovely lily displays that start peaking around now.  Cool nights like tonight also tend to make the scent even more divine.

Decent day on Deeside, outdoors in t-shirt all afternoon finishing off the tidy up after yesterday's demolitions. Today's maximum was 16.8 with very little wind to speak of. Surprised by the number of huge spiders that we've seen, not sure if it's a normal amount and just noticing them more with disturbing their homes but long time since I've seen them quite so large! Photo for scale and that was as close as I was getting

Absolutely stunning day here. Blue skies with a little cloud dotted around. Feels warm in the sunshine but as always there is a nip to the breeze.

The week ahead doesn't look to bad apart from Wednesday. And temps up to high teens. Summers last fling.

Frustrating weather last 2 days. It's tried to brighten up just never quite managed and not feeling that warm either under the cloud. Might not have been too bad if it had actually cleared but not quite managed to
