A cloudy rather bland weather day here with just a bit of rain at lunchtime and again this evening. Max of 16.6C with a light SW breeze freshening a bit later.

Strange old day, remarkable in that the temperature has hovered between 14-16c all day (even now its 15c outside).

Strong SW wind all day and a few showers as well (morning and evening).

Sun tried it's best but it only made a few brief appearances.

Morning all

Rain is on for the day here! Gloomy and dull - worst place to be in Scotland today for decent weather!

Getting very excited about Thursday - my idea of a perfect Summer day. (Proper heat with the risk of a spectacular thunderstorm!)

Charts look very impressive this morning for many of us - as ever areas most at risk subject to change this far out.

Friday also holds promise but not looking any further than Thursday at the moment.

Exciting times for storm lovers! (Risk is there for Thursday and Friday at least - hot and humid also!)

Have a good day everyone!

Was a grotty start but rain has cleared. Sun's trying to break through but not quite getting there. Should brighten up tomorrow and that's the trigger for thursday and friday's fun and games ;)

Another day with a remarkably low diurnal temperature range - low of 13.9c and a high of 18.0c (currently a very muggy 15.1c!!).

Let the picture do the talking, typical view today...

EDIT - just checked the convective weather forecast, looking interesting for here tomorrow...

Looking good for Fife/NE Scotland in the early hours of Thursday!

@CatchMyDrift is in a good spot tomorrow for heat and the risk of a thunderstorm mid/late afternoon.

Somewhere in Scotland is going to get very close to 30C on Thursday - Glasgow has a chance!

Morning all, currently a glorious 18c and it’s not even 8am.  Better make the most of it as those charts @Mr Frost has just posted have us pegged for mid-teens by tomorrow afternoon with an onshore flow.

Just seen that - risk is definitely there but would need to go to bed early tonight and set the alarm.

Check this out.

At the moment I would go with chance of an isolated thunderstorm in the Borders this afternoon/evening! (Hot down there as well)

Between roughly 1am and 7am pretty much anywhere in Scotland could see a thunderstorm/downpour!

Glad this rain is finally clearing - been pretty much non stop since yesterday morning overhead!

Expecting a sunny afternoon with a temperature of 20C so not too bad.

@Hawesy You actually mentioned the other day about Wednesday being the best day for you and the cooling breeze on the coast pegging back the temperature afterwards - spot on.  (Plenty of sunshine and no haar which is great)

I am off to do some work now!  Have a good day everyone.

Nice, I'm not setting my alarm for a storm chance here, there would be no chance of it happening then I know a spot down at Troon that would be awesome for photos if that came off with lightning probably visible towards Arran.

A bit of thin cloud around but according to the car the temp in Alford was 20C just now and the greenhouse thermometer was showing 18.7C with the door wide open since earlier this morning. Not too shabby, and Yellow Warnings now out for thunderstorms across various parts of Scotland from tomorrow into Sat morning.

Looks like quite a complex forecast for overnight and tomorrow but will give it a try later today / tonight but just wanted to post these soundings first, showing severe storms in the SW and NW of Scotland tomorrow, I’m wondering if supercell possibilities are a decent shout for tomorrow 0076FA08-2977-4471-913D-7A0B6FE66DC1.thumb.png.f0107841765694f4937d3bb1659ab94e.png < that’s for somewhere near the borders at midnight there will be an area of MUCAOE but models not really keen on breaking too many storms out will see what later runs show but that area then moves W and NW through tomorrow accompanied by large amounts of SBCAPE and that gives you the severe storm threat 44876D1E-1750-49C3-908F-D178421FF347.thumb.png.08f5108fe4edee7d77d407077bf23f67.pngC6B245A7-2FFC-4A01-9927-8CADEC3A5B46.thumb.png.6c53c926219ee6dbbc11919d804264cb.png3E7987C1-61B7-4583-8861-428E1B6F1877.thumb.png.e4d5b230974253e2914e133869661a4d.png

Warmest day of the year here in the East Neuk, currently 23c thanks to there being no onshore breeze! [Leuchars did hit 25.6c last month but we missed out that day due to the local sea breeze].

Glasgow Airport has only recorded 30C or more three times since the records started in 1973:

4th Aug 75 (31)

12th July 83 (30.1)

28th June 18 (31)

There are quite a few 29C and even one 29.9C but just the 3 actually at 30C.

Out of interest was the 29.9c in June 1995, @CatchMyDrift

I should remember the 1983 one as a young teenager but I don't.

Meantime it's still 23c here and Leuchars managed 25c earlier. Hazy sunshine all day and the best day of the year locally.

25.3c here the max today. Very warm to work in.

Met office are forecasting 29c tomorrow (usually an underestimate), sadly I will have to leave about 1pm for work but I’d think we’ll be there or thereabouts to 30c down here.

Hopefully it goes with a bang, shame it will be so fleeting

re photo - Grass getting long in the ‘hay’ field looking South, over that hill would be the coast if you could see past criffel

Got up to 24.4C here today - May 29th still holding the record. I think we are all thinking it's going to be warmer again tomorrow. Fifteenth day of 20C+ in Costa Del Tweeddale.

I think the weather today is worthy of a forum visit! Been enjoying a longer than expected digital break

Hope you're all doing well, staying safe, staying well and generally coping!

Airport hit 26c earlier, Gogarbank 24c which is probably what it hit here! Beautiful day. Fibgers crossed for some decent storms in the next few days

Lovely day here too and just about right for me at 23C. Hopefully the Easterly element in the breeze tomorrow doesn't take too much of an edge off the temps tomorrow. Out for fraternising drinks at friends house/ garden tomorrow evening so hoping for more of the same.

Interesting , i thought Glasgow  got 30c last July and in 2003 and 2006 , maybe i was thinking of some other place !

Last August towards the end of the month had a hot day , ususual to have a hot August day now.

Yes there was a day last August it was mid to high 20s in Glasgow. The August before that was in 2007 where it got to around 25c  the only warm spell that summer. The last good August was 2003 otherwise it’s always a wet month with little in the way of great sunshine or a dry week.. I do remember during the 90s a number of good August’s..

I have got that Christmas morning feeling!

Let it become reality! Bring on that severe risk!

6E00DFC4-61F9-46EA-BA80-B15CC7B38D1C.thumb.png.2cc947d28e9a981b47a5ea1c888ad07d.png

SCOTLAND ...

At 06z Thursday, elevated convection is likely to be ongoing or developing more widely across parts of Scotland, drifting generally northwards and becoming increasingly confined to the NW Highlands / Hebrides by early afternoon where coverage may continue to increase through the afternoon hours - more especially near Lewis/Harris.

In its wake, if sufficient cloud breaks can develop across the western half of Scotland then diurnal heating could yield 800-1,500 J/kg CAPE as surface temperatures climb to 24-27C with dewpoints around 15-18C. The presence of an EML will act as a cap much of the time, restricting convective development and resulting in a "loaded gun" environment. However, upslope flow over the mountains, perhaps also enhanced somewhat by differential heating boundaries, may provide enough forcing to create a few isolated but explosive surface-based thunderstorms (primarily mainland). The thermodynamic and kinematic environment would be supportive of storm organisation and potentially supercells, capable of producing large hail 3-4cm in diameter, frequent lightning and strong outflow gusts. While the overall threat is low, if storms can become sufficiently organised then the parameter space may be conducive to an isolated tornado, although the highly variable topography in this area can both serve to hinder or indeed enhance this potential depending on its influence on the low-level wind field.

A SVR has been introduced primarily for the threat for locally large, damaging hail. Some localised surface water flooding may also occur. Surface-based storms that do manage to develop over the mainland will drift generally to the N or NNW, potentially moving across parts of the Hebrides during the evening hours - however, those that develop significant mid-level rotation may deviate to the right and head more to the NE, at least for a time.

Overnight, a marked PV lobe will lift north from Ireland towards western Scotland and elevated thunderstorms are likely to become numerous, especially over and/or near the Hebrides during the early hours of Friday. Depending on how many manage to move over some islands, elements of training will bring the risk of localised flooding. Strong outflow winds are possible. Lightning will likely be quite frequent too given the reservoir of CAPE, although the environment is likely to become rather worked-over towards the end of the night and so lightning activity will likely decrease later as a result.

I am prepared to travel if necessary

Looks like the Western Isles may see a spectacular show. Fingers crossed we all see something special.

right this might seem underwhelming for a lot of us (Friday could hopefully be the main day for widespread activity) but here is a little risk map for through tomorrow now I will say first that there is that risk of something developing during the early hours from say the borders extending north and west through morning hours, but the models dont really make a big deal out of it though it wouldn't surprise me it really is a tough call but i will stick with that the atmosphere remains capped ... at this stage. Orange zone is the area i think has most chance of severe storm potential and storms that would be in the supercell category and the yellow zone is for also a chance of storms during the day but more so at night but I will do a separate risk for that tomorrow night once we see how things are going by then. image.thumb.png.80243eceb0125bb5c71b20486ec3b87c.png as always it will be best to keep watching sat24 and radar. Tornado threat being indicated that one isn't actually too far from you @Mr Frost gfs_2020062412_024_55.75--4.5.thumb.png.a3ef15c5b1562a1ba42d2f1270c25639.pnggfs_2020062412_024_57.25--4_75.thumb.png.098226c9f44349c94ffcd5565cddb9f7.png
