We had about 5 hours of sun yesterday here in Pittenweem while the haar was still rolling in at Crail just a few miles away - shows you just how unpredictable and localised it can be. It returned around 4pm and hasn't shifted since although it's not as thick currently. Yesterday's sun allowed temps to get up to the giddy heights of 16c!

@Mr Frost  I always think haar seems more interesting/atmospheric to those who don't regularly experience it.  It's a pain in the neck, particularly because you know there's good weather close at hand, not sure if the likes of @Kirkcaldy Weather or other east/NE coasties would agree? Interesting to hear about the thunderstorm 6/7 years ago - as I mentioned above in the thread I had a similar experience in Crail in 2007 with an epic thunderstorm in the haar which blew my neighbour's radiator off the wall in a lightning strike. No other storm I've experienced in this country has come close to being as impressive.

Edit: sun trying hard to break through here now.

Maybe @Benvironment should play this when the haar is next on the horizon

possibly a chance of some thundery showers later tomorrow as that front moves across the country will have to see what later runs show.

Been a lovely day after the low cloud cleared (which didn't last long) hazy sun now though unsurprising considering that rain band. It's been a surprisingly better week than you would have thought. Tomorrow though could give us a storm or 2.....................(maybe)

Lovely day with plenty of sunshine and a high of 21C.

Nice wee sky at the moment:

Forecasting thunderstorms and severe convective weather across the British Isles and Ireland for up to the next 5 days.

A few funnel clouds possible over Argyll and Ayrshire mentioned in the above.

Heavy showers quite widespread tomorrow compared to the previous few days - temperature expected here 18/19C and sun should be shining by early afternoon.

We go again...

Edit: @Stormeh agreed! I would love a bit of this overhead!  (Funnel cloud @Ross B posted about the other day)

I was just waiting on your post regarding tomorrow @Mr Frost

Certainly looks more promising for many areas tomorrow for some heavy showers. Hopefully a few thunderstorms and maybe a even funnel cloud would be cool

Return to Aberdeenshire Permagloom™

Day started with such potential with blue skies and sunshine.

Then by 08:30 the rot started with waves of Haar marching overhead until obscuring the sun completely by 10am.

Sun made a valiant attempt to break through the gloom at teatime but the Haar overcame that challenge.

Max temperature was 19c, recorded at 09:45 - thereafter the temperature remained stagnant at around 14/15c before slipping back further this evening (currently 12c).

Yes even by recent standards today is grim. Haar, drizzle, dreich and cool.

I see it got to 24.5c at Tyndrum yesterday, max was 14,9c at Leuchars.

June rapidly turning into a month to forget over here.

Ended up with some colourful lenticular clouds last night.

Third thunderstorm warning this Summer from the Met Office. (Previously two gave me about three minutes of drizzle overhead )

Should kick off mid/late afternoon - Central/North West Scotland most at risk it seems!

Hopefully a few of us see a bit of action!

All the best everyone!

@Mr Frost looks like u are well positioned today all the short range models I have looked at take the heaviest cell(s) over you so fingers crossed. The warning just misses here as is often the case these days, doesn’t really bother me tbh not sure I will get anything here maybe be able to see something in the distance ?‍♂️ADB377C5-9F65-46B7-B2FC-75C1C0E745AC.thumb.gif.80fbd1f9d72620256f177569a7238bed.gif

Showers starting to form now with some dark bases to my south. I'm heading to Ayrshire soon so you can guarantee what will happen with the storms....

Threatening looking skies on the way to work with big droplets of rain falling as arrived in the work car park. If things kick off then I will be taking my break outside in my car

Better day than anticipated here, a very pleasant 21c with occasional bouts of hot sunshine. Muggy (as always!)

I’m driving up to SE Glasgow later so look well positioned for any storms that may come in.
Nothing in Dumfries as yet but can see on the radar the heavy stuff is just across the Solway...

Just sitting on top of the hill at the moment - Met Office have stuck the thunderstorm symbol on for 18:00...any chance I had is now gone!

Heavy rain and not a hint of thunder and lightning anywhere in Scotland. (At the time of this post)

Starting to intensify a bit now with a few stronger cells popping up. Most are East of the M74 or North of the central belt so far..

You're right enough, NUT::oldgood:

My home town (Milton Keynes) was designed according to the 'Cumbernauld model', but being only 10-years' old, when shown the proposed plans, I didn't really 'get it'... But, when I visited the afore-mentioned locality (around 2000) I suddenly understood: roundabouts, roundabouts and even more bloody roundabouts...

But the accent on the road-signs is clearly different!???????

One day!

Ah well - only mid June so plenty of time for some of us to experience our first thunderstorm of Summer 2020! Hopefully the next risk day will be the one!

Tomorrow will be a lovely day to enjoy the Summer solstice for many of us - high teens/low twenties and plenty of sunshine.

Have a good weekend everyone!
