Another day of Aberdeenshire Permagloom™.

Haar all day, though not as thick as previous days.  Max temperature of 16c and calm conditions.

All mention of thundery weather removed for tomorrow, looks like a few benign days of sunshine and cloud coming up.

And of course that will be a massive improvement on the last few days.

There was a glimmer of hope in today's MetO forecast for Alford of the sun managing to break through late afternoon/evening. Unfortunately it was wrong and the day had the same 'inside of a damp sock' feeling as yesterday, and Saturday. Actually, damp socks was exactly what I ended up with despite wearing old leather walking shoes whilst hanging the last of the gates on the new fence. The grass was still sodden late afternoon despite temps of 16C and no appreciable rain all day.

50% chance for parts of Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway. (Borders on the edge)

 

What do you think? 

If that haar/cloud would sod off you could easily hit the high teens/low twenties tomorrow so who knows - more likely it will be about 14C though. 

Convective weather has just issued this:

Most interesting part relating to Scotland...

Showers and thunderstorms could persist until late evening in some areas, but will generally become weaker as nocturnal cooling of the boundary layer occurs later in the day. However, some elevated shower and thunderstorm activity may persist, or actually increase, across SW Scotland, the Irish Sea and into eastern Ireland through Tuesday night into early Wednesday as the aforementioned shortwave over England/Wales swings westwards through the night.

Could be a great day and overnight period tomorrow for storms in the SW.

Edit: @Kirkcaldy Weather grim stuff below - hopefully at the end of the week/weekend things improve for you and the others stuck under that rubbish.

@Mr Frost  nah just look at the haar and how it literally clings to here and other parts of Eastern Fife / east coast all day before moving in again at night @Hawesy etc   also if u look at the cloud cover charts the North Sea is full of it just streaming into eastern areas in particular, think areas similar to today ie SW , W and NW Scotland have a fair chance at a few decent storms breaking out with higher CAPE values and more convergence zones likely.

Hopefully today’s showers are more widespread and push further north @Mr Frost. I may ask to leave work early if things are looking good later, just have to wait and see I guess

An upgrade from both the met office and convective weather this morning, fingers crossed

Good morning folks, in terms of the haar, it’s as you were 

Leuchars managed to record the coolest max in the UK yesterday at 13.2c so I guess that’s something of note. Nice combo with 0.0 hours of sun.  As @Kirkcaldy Weather noted, not much chance of any change today around here!

Nice to see Lerwick leading on the sunshine!

That one perfect word to describe today's weather...... Dreich! Rained ( lightly ) most of the night and still gently dripping. Temp way down on recent days at 14c but I am thankful for the coolness. At least I won't have to water the garden today!

We're just outside the slight zone on convective weather............(again) but you never know. Very grey here at the moment but not cold

Slightly brighter here this morning, but only marginally and the grass is still very wet. Feels warm and less humid though.

Looking much better than last night! Just had a quick browse across the models - working from home until 16:00 today so can’t go out until then!  (Hopefully nothing arrives until after then!)

Met Office kicks off with some potent cells around 14:00 - spreading further North and West by 16:00. 
We are definitely in the mix - period between 01:00 and 04:00 needs to be watched also - could be overnight thunderstorms or a wet mess! 

 

Just waiting on the Met Office either issuing a warning or sticking the thunderstorm symbol on the APP automated forecast...then I will 100% know nothing is going to happen! 

Crud is clearing here - currently 17C...expecting 22/23C later.

@Mr Frost @Hawesy looking through the charts possibly some positive signs over the next few days a bit intriguing too, the cloud charts show breaks and sunshine for us haar plagued Fifers and the haar charts don’t show it reappearing certainly over the next few days but the wind charts still show the easterly but I then noticed it actually ramps up the winds in the Firth of Forth so I’m thinking that’s what gets rid of the haar - lower winds are what fog and haar feeds off I believe?

The first heavy showers have formed in the same area as the last few days, just south east of Girvan - the new storm capital of Scotland!

Trying to brighten up here. Only thing is we just outside main risk zones I think so might just miss out

You never know it's just a forecast and you're close enough. It's brightening up here too now which is only a good thing for storms

Work finished at 14:00 when I looked out the window...

Just down at the Bay - looking good West to East - current temperature 20C.

Heading up an exposed 100 meters hill now for a better view - could be a good day ahead for many of us!

Great stuff down there at the moment!

Frequent lightning near work (Newton Stewart) with loud thunder getting ever louder. Hailstones in the mix too. 20c

When I left my house about 13:40 was 23.4c, bright and very muggy.

@Stormeh That’s us cursed now - Met Office warning, thunderstorm symbol and I’m sure I was getting the middle finger from this...

 

All joking aside - lots of towers have been going up and then straight back down again!

Last half hour has started to look more promising though.

 

21C now - perfect sunbathing weather while watching the sky/radar!

Warmer and drier here compared with the last couple of days. Cloud much higher and thinner too with just a hint of blue sky to the North. 16.9C.

The sun has finally managed to put in an appearance here today. At this time of year for us though, after days of gloom that usually means only one thing...time to play hunt the swarm.

Can you spot it? Oh and that is our youngest son who decided that rather than do school work it would be preferable to be surrounded by thousands of bees. Luckily swarms don't tend to be too angry, even when you aggravate them by shaking the branch they are clinging to, to try to get them into a sack on a long pole..

Thanks @Kirkcaldy Weather some hopeful news on the haar front.  I think increasing winds do help and also some lower dew points by the looks of things.

Still grey here although the haar has lifted a bit and it’s a little warmer that yesterday (15c).

Lots of towering cumulus just to the south of Glasgow so wouldn't be surprised to see a storm form close to here soon. I'm avoiding hay-fever so not going out for a better view!
