Is that Mr Puddles again @CatchMyDrift ? Hard to tell without his wee flood sign!

Great day yesterday with a high of 20C and plenty of sunshine.

Sun is trying to break through at the moment (currently 16c and feels quite warm) but it had been a very gloomy morning beforehand - no doubt some rain will visit me shortly then hopefully a warm sunny late afternoon/evening ahead.

Risk of an isolated thunderstorm today from latest Convective weather forecast:

A2242350-5110-404D-9D3E-863C71D96541.thumb.png.8af76b3ce1a063bfc3e93b5cdf65b116.png

... NE ENGLAND INTO SCOTLAND ...

Pulses of elevated convection are likely to be ongoing first thing Saturday morning over NE England associated with a PV lobe and on the leading edge of a Theta-E tongue, drifting generally northwestwards across southern Scotland, while probably weakening during the afternoon as the upper forcing overruns and clears to the west. By the afternoon, residual mid-level instability plume will straddle central portions of Scotland. In general, the greatest risk of lightning (if any) will be on the eastern edge of such convective precipitation over the North Sea (close to E / SE Scotland), where forecast profiles reveal some fairly substantial instability rooted from the 900mb level. Beneath, a cool and moist boundary layer with extensive low cloud and sea fog is likely. A low-end SLGT may be considered for this area. Higher surface temperatures (20-23C) and cloud breaks are expected in western Scotland, but rather saturated profiles and skinny CAPE here suggests the risk of lightning with any cells that develop here is substantially lower. That said, an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out if any minor impulses engage with this residual plume.

Late on Saturday night a renewed uptick in elevated convection is expected over the North Sea, close to NE England and SE Scotland and so there could be a few sporadic lightning strikes here at the end of the night.

Met Office outlooks seem promising! (As ever!)

Once again please excuse my West of Scotland bias but tomorrow looks great - expecting 22/23C at the least and plenty of sunshine. (Hopefully that sets off a big shower or two)

Tuesday looks the best bet to catch a thundery downpour.

Warm week ahead as well and still looking good come next weekend on the latest GFS - at the moment.

Hopefully the warmth/sunshine spreads to other parts of Scotland so everyone can enjoy a bit of decent weather!

Does it look like this?

Pretty much, although being on a hill we don't get big puddles like that.

Hello all, I hope everyone is keeping well. I have not been on here for a while. Too busy with work and trying to help the kids with their studying at home. I am going to try read through some of the posts I have missed out on over the last few months

It’s starting to rain here but feeling very humid, signs of proper summer weather as we head into next week.

Some heavy showers that were to our SE offshore just reaching Aberdeen now. Might lift the mist if nothing else.

Look very heavy on radar - lightning strikes in the North Sea recently.

North West was best today - hat and gloves on in Edinburgh.

@CatchMyDrift Looks very peaceful/cosy down there with the haar!

It's 83 miles from here to the east coast at Bamburgh, Northumberland, which is the direction from which my weather has been coming today:

IMG_20200613_150005.jpg

At 250m here I suppose we recapture that haar experience.

And these came out today for the first time since March:

You wouldn't think it with the grey skies but getting increasingly muggy out there. It as if the atmosphere is building

Could be interesting lots of storms and massive amounts of instability currently across countries like Lithuania where there was tornado yesterday, Belarus, Estonia etc but I suspect the easterlies will bring cloud and potential haar for us east coasters and never a fan of easterlies when looking for storm potential 99% of the time seems to kill off any potential storms here unless it’s in winter with cold 850s like 2010 and BFTE.

Did indeed end up the case, most foggiest day for a long time here and Visibility is gradually getting worse as the evening progresses, have heard the foghorn a few times today. A reminder why I never like to see an easterly in the summer  ?️

Dreich.

Haar all day, just a light shower around teatime to liven up the weather a bit though it made nought difference to the amount of Haar.

Surprisingly oppressive feeling as well, thanks in part to the remarkably mild temperatures (max of 16.1c; currently 11c).

View summarising the day...

Snag_2f5db3b.thumb.png.4b0317e02cb0b7fc1b0aaa053e1a8881.png

All the rain recently has turned the local meadow into a jungle...

Snag_2f64436.thumb.png.35d43e36d1bd9232b71ab716843e306a.png

Perfect weather for Gastropods though, with the still conditions this evening you could literally hear the monsters destroying the vegetable patch.

Found a weak spot though, they like old banana skins so congregate round those making their disposal less time consuming...

Morning all,

Im not sure if it’s a new day or just a rerun of yesterday.  Worst thing is I may be saying the same thing until the middle of next week!

Haar, 12c/12c. Good luck to those who see it lift/burn off, unfortunately not much prospect of that for the likes of myself, @Kirkcaldy Weather @Norrance etc.

Sounds grim @Hawesy

By contrast a lovely Blue sky start here, low was 13c. Already about 18c here, should be reaching 25c comfortably in my sheltered back garden.

Looks to be a more summery week ahead!

Looking at the positives it’s a whole degree warmer than the same time yesterday (14c instead of 13c) and the haar has thinned a bit as these photos show.

Some nice storms kicking off in Ireland/Northern Ireland, North Wales and parts of the West Midlands!

Meanwhile in Scotland...hee-haw!

Currently 20C and very humid here with hazy sunshine - no chance anything is going to happen though.

Risk of thunderstorms/downpours reserved for parts of the Highlands and South West Scotland - late afternoon/early evening.

Sunshine/warmth is great but I am getting a wee bit desperate to see a bit of convective weather!

Hopefully the new week delivers something - Met Office have the main action in Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire tomorrow.

@Hawesy Heading into next weekend looks glorious for you (warm/sunny) - enjoy the haar while you can.

25.6c is probably going to be the peak. Totally clear and still feeling humid which is more a sign of July/August than the first half of June

Glorious out there now - current temperature of 22C.

Couple of nice cells ongoing at the moment. (Highlands and SW - lightning showing up on both)

Cloudy, grey, humid, calm and occasionally drizzly, but the temp got up to 16/17C.

We flouted the 'rules' and the whole family, all 5 of us, took the dog for a walk around Loch Kinnord. We reckoned if we added up our individual 5 mile limits, so 5 x 5 =25 miles, at 21 miles each way we were within our allowed distance from the house. Not sure if that's how the rules work, but at least I was confident about my eyesight before I jumped in the car.

Everyone enjoyed the walk despite it being less than perfect weather.

Yuk.

Three letter word to summarise the day, though tempted to use a four letter one.

Haar all day, calm conditions and feeling oppressive again with the temperature max of 16.5c.

We're 18 miles inland and the haar was so thick this evening that the lights had to be used from 8pm.

Quite impressive in a way, interesting to know how bad it was on the coast itself.
