As posted in my 'status update' now 22:30 5.1°C and driving rain on a 40mph NW wind. Thought our friends down south might enjoy a glimpse of this North Sea low pressure's effect on our summer weather!

Just the same here.   Is"nt it fabulous ( a Farmers viewpoint) sufficiently heavy and prolonged to get moisture down to all the plant roots.Cattle don"t however like it and are busy scurrying form one side of the field to the other trying to find the dyke with the best shelter.

Massive brock badger visited the spillings of the bird feeders just outside the kitchen window this evening hours  before it got dark so everyone got a great view of him. No social distancing here!!!! Wiilhave to leave a window open another night to get a photo.

Negative view of the badger is that our only pair of oyster catchers gave up on laying eggs having had them eaten twice so for the first time in my lifetime there will be no chicks on the farm this year. We used to have 9 pairs on the farm every spring along with a couple of pairs of lapwings  The badger population does need managing now. Very few young hares too this spring. and all ground living wildlife is scarse.

I think the the clearence should reach us in a couple of hours so  cattle will be able to settle down for the night.

In the spirit of Billy Connolly's mantra "no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing, get yourself a sexy raincoat and live a little", went for for a wee 9k walk this evening and it wasn't too bad really! Don't mind a wet and windy spell from time to time in the summer as it helps everything grow.

Haven't been on at all recently but the early part of the week and last week were stunning with a fair few days in the mid twenties and a couple days of 26C with feels like temperatures a couple degrees north of that. I'm optimistic about the coming summer and fairly confused by the dramatics in the model thread with talk of 2012. Then again I'm often confused by that thread so not change there!

What nonsense is this.  Currently 5.5c with a howling northerly gale and moderate rain.

Got to love the variability of Scottish weather.

I even gave in to the wife's demands and lit the woodburner in the lounge yesterday evening. I must admit it was cosy, but in June?

In contrast, today was a lot nicer than I'd been expecting. Still a nagging wind but the sun has managed to stay out for much of the day so if feels pleasant. Just back from a walk with the wife, youngest son and dog. Getting and excitable 5mth old puppy to pose for a photo isn't easy.

MUCH more like it today. Started out cloudy but it cleared up and we now have unbroken sunshine. Wind has died right down so feels warm even though the air temperature is only around 15c.

A bit wet and breezy this evening but the rest of the day was more than acceptable.

Max of 15.2c, and with plenty sunshine in the afternoon felt very nice indeed - even the wind died down to allow you to enjoy it.

Some very photogenic Cirrus in the early afternoon....

Better weather today - and a mid-afternoon earth tremor that woke the place up. IMG-20200606-WA0004.thumb.jpg.3cde527cc18629066bb8210dee9acaca.jpg

For some years now I’ve had a theory that the seasons can be off by a few months, over the past few weeks we have basically had winter weather patterns,  north and easterly winds, large areas of high pressure feeding air from the continent if this were back in January and February we would have been in the deep freeze with plenty snow...what we got back then was Autumn weather patterns very mild and wet.

Morning all

Hope you are well.

Real mixed bag of weather over the last few days! Friday had NW gales and heavy rain, Saturday 17C and sunshine and today is similar to yesterday.

Nice wee sunset last night.

Excuse my West of Scotland bias here but later in the week (Friday onwards) there could be a wee mini heatwave brewing for a number of days! (Add anywhere between 2 and 4 degrees to those charts below)

Latest Met Office outlook (When has it ever been wrong before? )

Friday 12 Jun -Sunday 21 Jun

The first few days of the period, including next weekend and into the start of the following week, should see the driest brightest weather across northern areas of the UK, particularly western Scotland. Elsewhere, conditions will be rather changeable with some sunshine but also areas of rain or showers. Thunderstorms are also likely in places. Many parts will become warm, perhaps very warm, particularly northwestern areas. However, mist and low cloud will probably affect east coasts at times, making it cooler here. For the rest of the period confidence is low. However, conditions will probably be mixed, with periods of dry, bright weather, but also some spells of cloud and rain, perhaps accompanied by stronger winds. Temperatures will probably continue to be above average generally.

Something to keep an eye on and hopefully when the time comes all of Scotland is basking in warmth/sunshine!

Dull cold day today wth showers coming in off the Firth from the north in the morning.Temperature has been about 9c all day. Famiies of sparrows at the bird feeder all day with sometimes 40 perched on the washing line. Must be almost no insect life as they currently empty the feeders on a daily basis. Certainly not flaming June!!!!!

Back to late Autumn again today.

Just scraped a max of 10c under overcast skies, with the added frisson of occasional drizzly showers.

Only redeeming feature is the winds were generally light.

On a more positive note we now have full quota of 16 swifts in the farmhouse eaves most of whom were soaring on a cool northerly breeze this evening and  not the usual warm southerly wind.

Managed briefly to get up to 15.7C today when the sun came out. Mostly cloudy though with a light Northerly breeze.

Just for a change the low cloud on the horizon off to the East this evening isn't actually haar but smoke from a big fire in an industrial estate on the East side of Dundee.

Mid afternoon we took a drive to a local plant nursery to get some bushes & perrenials. On the way back, around Insch, I noticed the car thermometer reading 7C, in cloudy, drizzly conditions. Not exactly June like, even for Scotland

It looks likely that today will be a usable day if you're working or walking outside but I wouldn't fancy sitting out. This year's tattie field is coming through strong after the recent rain:

Very true. Cloudy and cool this morning when I was out for a walk, the sun has come out now which is welcome but it’s still only 11c!

Pleasant day. Barely any wind with some sun alternating with the cloud. Mostly similair tomoroww before a late change which might end up bringing more flashes and bangs (eventually) one to watch as those easterlies kick in

Clear start to the day at 4c but clouded over in the morning before brightening up this afternoon and becoming sunny to  a maximum of 16c. Cool clear evening at 7c and have just seen two very hungry badgers just outside the kitchen window eating the spilt grain from the bird feeders. Another lifetime first. The countryside is overun with badgers here.

Overcast until late afternoon, cloud slowly dissipating thereafter to leave currently clear skies.

Max temperature of 11c and already down to 3.9c, just as well the sensitive plants are fleeced up as a frost is looking likely.

Complete absence of honeybees here this year, bit worrying actually.

Just as well there are few bumblebees to take up the slack - interestingly the most common type here is this one.

A rough search through google suggests its a Tree Bumblebee, which amazingly only arrived in the UK in 2001! - link, link2
