25.2C - phwaorrrr what a scorcher! Seventh day of 20C+

Broad Law has lost its snow patches - can't see any evidence today. Didn't quite make it in to June!

Stunning Fata Morgana seen yesterday and today in the Forth from East Lothian coast. Optical illusion on various ships (double the height and inverting) and the Isle of May which had it's middle part appearing double height but side bits as normal.

8am heading to work it was 15/16C

1pm heading home it was 26C

At 8pm, with the doors wide open and no sun on it the thermometer in my greenhouse was still reading 20C.

Bees confused us today. Late afternoon I was sat outside having a cold cider when I heard a distinct humming sound rise up, as did the wife who was in the conservatory. I took a quick look and there were loads flying around in the clearing in the trees above the hives. By the time we got the suits on for a closer look there was no sign of them. No sign of a swarm in any of the trees, no cluster of bees around any of the hive entrances like there usually is if they swarm. Both hives with queen's (2 of 4, the other 2 didn't make it through the winter for some reason) have been 'manipulated' to try to avoid them swarming, which usually works. We can't be sure one hasn't swarmed, but we don't think so. Only thing we can think of is they got a little too toasty and decided to get out for a cool down, but never seen that before. All over in 5-10mins so maybe you just have to be lucky to catch them doing it.

What a day.

Reached a max of 26.5c, remarkable really considering how fresh the SE wind was for most of the afternoon.

In the afternoon there was a lot of the Cirrus Uncinus cloud that Sean Batty mentioned in Twitter yesterday (well, I think it was that...).

That in itself was photogenic enough but at around 5pm lo and behold appears a rainbow amongst the clouds - mesmerising to watch.  Over by Aberdeen the display was clearer, apparently something called a circumzenithal arc.

Cooler here today. Yesterday it was 20C before 9am, currently 18.7C just before midday. I do like a cooling east wind when it's not haary

ESE blowing through gusting to 20mph...taking the edge off the temperature a wee bit - currently 21C.

Some fair weather cumulus about...just a shame they won’t grow into cumulus mediocris/congestus.

Kinloss , current UK hot spot. A bit of warmth will do you guys good way up North !  No mountain meadow growth here, 3 c in the village and still snow patches in the back garden. Its been a horrible , cold spring in the Eastern Alps with little sunshine. My farmer friend is desperate to get his winter store cattle out grazing to fatten up, but no grass . Enjoy your final days of spring. Looking on at envy.

Big difference in the temperature today thanks to the strong SSE wind that has been blowing since early morning.

Currently struggling to get up to 19c (18.8c), even though there is less cloud about - still some very photogenic Cirrus around though.

It’s freezing out there!

Slight exaggeration but 13/14c in a 25mph ESEly doesn’t feel too warm! Still very pleasant in shelter though.

Just remembering back to the first week in March when were getting stuck in the mud the transformation has been phenominal with even the spring barley and clover showing signs of wilting in the hot fresh wind. Will not need to cut domestic grasses again until we get rain as it  is now yellow/brown and crisp .

Cattle here all lying on their sides in the sunshine with broad grins on their faces. Going to have  a salad tea outside in the early evening.with own garden radishes, lettuce and strawberries. .All ready a few weeks ahead of normal

Sounds mighty fine, almost Darlings Buds of May like ! No chance of tea in the garden here, now 2.5c with full overcast sky ,  log burner blazing. At least can look forward to a visit to the pub this evening !

C , Aye.

Despite a welcome fresh breeze, still pushed north of 23c here in unbroken sunshine.

Yet again got a truly horrible sleep off nightshift so looking forward to a cooler late evening hopefully

Maxed out about 19C here too but didn't feel anything like that if you were in the strong, cool breeze. Out of the breeze though and it was lovely.

Homemade quiche ,salad and strawberries001.thumb.JPG.0457d0deb9a915b9818fce8510720ef8.JPG for a real midsummer tea.( I know they are not the biggest but very  sweet)

.

The main beds(Cambridge Favourite) are just covered in flowers so should be  a big crop to ripen from mid June onwards.

Still 19c and more pleasant outside now with a moderate breeze.

Wind eased a bit in the afternoon and the temperature responded to reach a max of 20.5c - happy with that.

Calm conditions outside and surprisingly cool, already down to 7c.

Worrying number of people out today in the surrounding woods not caring a damn about social distancing.  Neighbour was telling me that he disturbed a group of six motorcyclists having a barbeque at the side of the wood near us - again couldn't care less about social distancing and were less than polite at the suggestion to obey the rules (plus fact the woods are tinder dry again so a fire is not the best idea).  Madness, the disease is no less dangerous than in March.  Nothing has materially changed just politics confusing the issue.

Rant over.

Sunny again here today with the temp (very briefly) maxing at 19.7C. A few degrees down on yesterday but also a few degrees above what was forecast. The Easterly breeze did strengthen as the day went on making the evening feel cool. The dreaded haar can be seen out to sea to the East with some bits drifting up the estuary. Hopefully won't come to much.
