Very windy again this evening most unseasonal.

Quick question.  Does everyone have the reduced number of swallows 3 (20-30) sand martins 4 (10-20) and swifts  3 (10-20)  like we have?.  Usual figures in brackets?

Have seen very few around here this Spring. Usually there are good numbers of swallows and swifts bu I think that I have only seen a couple and no house martins. Very windy again here today but not as much as last night. A couple of showers have made it through but it has been mostly dry. Max here was 14.7C.

Winds have been strong enough through the day here but looks like the worst is yet to come 218A4FA7-466D-48DE-9431-3F7DC2421F8E.thumb.gif.824e18058407f28df6e7d6efdab8298b.gif

Pretty accurate has been a wild day here and still strong gusts also some rain at times more like autumn.

We've hardly got any swallows here either. That is so sad.

For here I would say that our House Martin numbers are about the same as last year.

However, that is not something to really boast about as there were definitely more birds around 3 or 4 years ago, as testified by the ghostly remains of nests on a number of the outbuildings.

What is different this year is that we have Swifts for the first time ever (at least two of them).  Their screeching in the evening is quite a change from the demure chirping of the House Martins.

Corvids though have definitely boomed in number in recent years, certainly know of some people round here that would love the local farmers to start deploying Larsen traps.

Another damaging day of wind with strong to very strong W to NW winds, only recently calming down.

Plenty branches coming off trees and I see there were some trees down on the roads round Banchory.

Not that cold with a max of 17c, the wind off course making it feel a lot cooler than this.

Overcast but dry until this evening when the skies cleared a bit to allow some welcome evening sunshine.

As poor as yesterday and friday was it's as if it never rained. It's a nice finish to the day. Looks like just about a dry week (probably not wall to wall clear skies) but should be dry

Lovely calm end to the weekend. Got up to 13.5°C today, but that wind only slowly died.

Good stuff from @CatchMyDrift above - I’m sure we are all looking forward to that!
Forecast for plenty of sunshine here this week - temperatures in the high teens/low 20’s from Thursday for two or three days at least!

Wild weekend (gales/heavy rain) has now ended with everything calm and still - bright colourful night. (Pictures taken after 22:00)

Respectable day yesterday with a glorious evening to cap it all.  When the weather is nice, nothing beats Scotland at this time of year with that fresh green look to everything.

Lovely start to the day with clear blue skies and calm conditions.

Didn't last long, the sunshine is getting hazy and that darned wind is picking up again, very gusty outside just now.  Temperature 17c which is very pleasant out of the wind.

Looking at the wrf eu we might see the highest of the temps in the UK by Thursday / Friday with 20-22 C across Scotland might be a bit higher sometimes the models can underdo the temps but will be interesting to see. E3F6D515-4568-43CB-8CEC-B3A34D603C22.thumb.png.938af681346aa4a321178b0090cf92e1.png446F7991-E1AE-4FEE-9195-BD18434A19D0.thumb.png.131ba2da39b9403eef209166e6088e9f.png

Looks like a nice week. Whoever mentioned crows, we are inundated with jackdaws in this street. I'm sick of the things. Canny feed the wee birds for them coming down in blankets, they sit on the roofs and watch every move you make.

One less crow around here, found as deid as a Norwegian Blue on the lawn this morning. Not that unusual actually, with a big garden we average 3 or 4 per year.

Not a bad day today, especially the morning when it was up to 18C or thereabouts. Clouded over in the afternoon and the breeze got up again but it was OK out. The good news is that the apple trees managed to keep thier blossom despite the winds over the weekend. The cherries fared less well but they weren't completely stripped. Time will tell as to how they will fruit. Two years ago they were festooned, last year they produced very little as I'm sure we had winds again. Later that time, as the fruit was developing, leading to lots of leaves and fruit stalks all over the grass.

Really nice day here with plentiful sunshine. High of 21c at Leuchars which I think would be one of the highest readings in Scotland today. Outlook looks good though temps will likely fall locally as an onshore winds develop. It’s been a great spring overall just sad not to have spent more of it out walking!

Just like the last few days, the morning and evening having the best weather of the day with the middle portion a bit naff..

Lovely and sunny until mid-morning then just glimpses of the sun thanks to extensive cloud until clear blue skies appearing again this evening.

Respectable max of 18c but had to put on a jacket in the afternoon to be comfortable outside thanks to the strong breeze that rolled in with the cloud.

Calm conditions now, perfect skies to keep an eye out for some noctilucent clouds - see some were seen in Norfolk last night (link).

Kids snaffled the phone this afternoon and was impressed to find they did some cloud spotting on the camera rather than the usual Unicorn and Astronaut themed selfies.

20.4C max here and feeling warm in the sunshine. As you said an onshore breeze keeping things cooler on the coast on some days and perhaps a bit of a South Easterly drift at the weekend bringing a haar risk right on the East coast.  Earlier saw this photo of lenticular clouds in Highland Perthshire this morning.

16C today and sunshine but didn’t feel that warm at all - lovely end to the day.

Absolutely buzzing for this warmth to arrive (get the Summer tan started early ) - Thursday through to Monday at the very least showing high teens to start and then low 20’s for here.

Hot inland and especially up in Moray later in the week/weekend.

All the best everyone!

Edit: @Quinach we had some cracking displays of noctilucent clouds on my doorstep last Summer - few of the locals got some pictures. (I was fast asleep - usually appeared between 12:30/01:30)

Hoping to get out in the early hours and get a picture this Summer.

Fabulous day with more or less unbroken sunshine.

50% of neeps through .I think most of the rest will need a shower of rain to germinate. With the warmth of today you can almost see them growing.

Grazed grass fields are showing signs of drought on gravelly hills and the first cut of silage on the neighbouring dairy farm does not seem heavy so they will be looking for rain for the second cut before six weeks time.A bit of a sea breeze has developed so its a bit cooler now at 16c.

Got some ripe strawberries in a cold frame001.thumb.JPG.73b1bda56c6ff791dc8b2b394ca26cb6.JPG and the, outside ones002.thumb.JPG.c668805ac015899138e031fe0af6c098.JPG are catching up rapidly although @AuroraStorm says they are a bit small , hers are better.   Weed control very easy this year just one run of the dutch hoe does the job for about a week till more weeds germinate.

Spring barley just racing ahead,  it really is a sunshine crop with flag leaf emergence about a week away.If it does not turn cold and wet it should be an early August harvest.

Not all good news the beech hedge which normaly looks its freshest brightest green at this time of year was seriously scalded by last weekends very windy weather and is looking fairly brown on its windward side

So the proper warmth starts tomorrow but those night time temps are disgusting CAPE looks decent especially later on Friday but struggling to see a trigger unless any convergence zones develop so quite a low risk I think. 73760D77-B3B1-4035-92A8-1664FD4F0D20.thumb.png.848668b181679a4b28e40b4cb093c0e5.pngCC0FB5D7-F898-4FFD-8EFC-C99382031CEC.thumb.jpeg.5c1b2a996ac32c70f605d9cfc2f462d2.jpeg0208630E-5154-4B3A-8B6B-C735772C3159.thumb.jpeg.54102504aad211c0aa170fec0901b671.jpeg1EDC3D6E-031B-4036-93DD-B0EA95B6A3CD.thumb.png.cd8dd7281f44595bb5cab3efb537934f.png

Evening all,

Sunny again but around 5c cooler than yesterday with a light onshore wind. More of the same to come although as @Norrance said a risk of haar towards the weekend. We’ve been lucky with the lack of haar this year, long may it continue!

April, May and the first couple of weeks of June are summer in Scotland, driest & sunniest part of the year. I have no idea why we're always surprised when it gets to July and the rain comes.

The Euro4 showed cloudy for much of southern Scotland today but Mother Nature said NAW! So we ended up with a stunning day made doubly stunning as it was supposed to be flat grey. It was only 16C at best but it felt hot in the sun:

20200527_155237.thumb.jpg.a65a97d272a0f81c2e8399e57aea93a2.jpg20200527_154924.thumb.jpg.45264ca6693dc68c22b68a3916036bc0.jpg20200527_154945.thumb.jpg.7412c82f718d003838770476a97f91ed.jpg

It'll be interesting to see if we can sustain any type of drier weather into June-August.

Shows how different things are on the east coast. Often temperatures struggle to reach double figures in April here with snow falling most years. May and the beginning of June regularly see cold easterly winds and the arrival of summer in July can be a relief. September is far preferable to May.
