Stunning weather, max of 18.3c and the wind was lighter today which made a big difference to the feel of the day.

Clear blue skies with just the occasional hint of cloud.

You just get the feeling that we are going to pay for all this good weather later in the summer.

Quite a bit of plane activity round here today for a change.  Checking Flightradar some strange flights over North Scotland just now, presuming some kind of survey ongoing.

Funny I was talking about plane activity with a friend earlier on. Not seen one flying over here in about a month but that not all a bad thing must be doing wonders for air pollution (in a good way)

More of the same. Low cloud first thing but it burned back by mid-morning. Wind lighter than recent days so even though the temperature peaked around 11c it felt a bit warmer.

As @Norrance said unusual for it to be so clear on the east coast with a persistent easterly wind. This may change tomorrow, according to the forecast, with the dreaded h**r possibly making an unwelcome appearance!

Pretty sunset last night.

I went north again today. Inland the temp got up to about 17C (and I got quite pink and sweaty in the sun for a while) but much lower on the coast.  Little of the cloud we saw yesterday but increasingly hazy - why's this, surely not home grown smog? The weather seems to be a bit slack over the next few days so perhaps at least the wind will drop for a while.

This was mid afternoon - there is some detail there, you just need to look quite hard...  caithness.thumb.jpg.c11055f5bd8282afdc08511aadbd7852.jpg

This evening's sunset looks the same as last night...

Today's music - Banco de Gaia and Thievery Corporation...

A question for the knowledgeable: are we going to get a last wintry (or even semi-wintry) blast in the next 2 or 3 weeks? Wondering about gardening matters and also when to swap to summer tyres before shredding the weatherproofs on the A9....

@Mr Frost - your panoramic sunset is quite psychedelic, definitely one to keep.

No real expert but the final winding down of the polar vortex and subsequent dispersal of cold air across the northern hemisphere  usually results in some cold air reaching us in the next month on northerly or  easterly orientated winds.

On a non scientific basis all our grass fields this year are very exposed with no woods or major dykes for shelter so cattle would  not like cooler spell. So much  more likely to happen. Going to try and sow swedes from second week of May as early  May still has a high chance of a frost. Runner beans in garden never planted out till June

Fabulous day again with top temperature of 17c and its still 9c here so maybe no frost tonight  and growth should take off if we get warmer nights.

Tomorrow looks quite cloudy with some hazy sunshine at times. Saturday and Sunday bright, but looking very wet next week and beyond into mid-May even... Models are all over the place, so whilst the transition to wetter conditions seems certain, it isn't clear how long it will last. GFS has been hinting that high pressure could return reasonably soon

That was tempting fate to post that blue sky photo last night. This morning we have banks of low cloud (not properly haar yet) drifting in off the firth and it's pretty chilly.

We're doomed.

I can’t see any lowland snow happening now - still the risk of frosts though into the first half of May.

Sort out the garden and get the Summer tyres on.

Lovely start here with just a wee bit of high cloud - should burn off shortly.
Fine day ahead and tomorrow looks lovely also - reverts back to average conditions from Sunday though.

GFS shows a wee wintry blast on high ground in the latter stages but that will probably have vanished on the next run!

Current month really has been great - Met Office stats below are from the first half of this month but there has been very little change since! (Very interesting to see our stats at the end of the month)

Down to 2c at 6.00am this morning with yet another ground frost but low cloud rolled in here too about an hour later.   Temperature currently 8c

Like most of the week nice once again albeit hazy. Admittedly looking forward to some weather at long last from Sunday onwards (too much of being stuck in a rut with the sunshine)

Definitely stuck in a rut here, making working from home much more difficult than it would be if it was wet and miserable outside.

Exhibit No1... our Coronavirus fence...

IMG_20200424_143459.thumb.jpg.4dea9b7b38d1e4bb18e6d2733884e7e4.jpg

Well OK, that was mostly put up during the school holidays.

Exhibit No2... our Coronavirus flowerbed...

IMG_20200424_143523.thumb.jpg.d868679fb59a3dda239643d2b77341b3.jpg

Now that was at least partially dug out from a weedy, grassy mess when I should really have been working. Hopefully it'll look more like a flower bed in a month or two if the seeds we put in germinate.

Next weeks rain might help with that, but the cooler weather probably won't.

Well the haar has stayed away so far but I can see it out in North Sea so fear it’s just a matter of time!
Meanwhile it is sunny again but once more temperature is stuck around 10/11c with the easterly wind.

Actually any sort of haze has cleared. We're back to clear and blue again

@CatchMyDrift - is there a yellow theme starting there by any chance?

Our cloud lifted late morning but there's been more of a wind so more of a three layers day, even in the relative shelter of the garden.

Aye, if you don't like yellow look away now. And keep looking away for several weeks.

No problem with yellow. Yellow is warm. Yellow are the flowers that will rule the world...

Just thin cloud here but looking greyer to the East. Temp has dropped almost 9 degrees in the last couple of hours and there is a distinct chill in the light NE breeze. Now 7.5C.  Did some gardening and planting this afternoon and found the ground bone dry. Having had my front lawn die on me in 2018 I have already had the sprinkler in this week. Low pressure developing by next week but I don't see any sign of any significant rain in this area.

Gorgeous day, proper summer feel as still mid teens even now. Reached a peak of 20.5c in strong unbroken sunshine

This morning at 5:30 was down to 0.5c however.

One last glorious day tomorrow before we return to more normal conditions with hopefully some rain
