15.9°C and not particularly sunny, but not overly cloudy either. Frog spawn ready to burst:

Overcast and cool today with a max of 9c.  Winds light which makes such a difference.

You would hardly think there was any rain yesterday as the ground is still powder dry, especially in the raised beds.  Will need to dig out the sprinkler at this rate.

Lawn is not going to be a prize-winner this year, dry conditions and kids in lock-down do not make for a healthy growing combination.

Bumble-bees out in force which is always a welcome sight, no honey-bees though.

I've had to water the south facing raised bed at the front of the house, especially as it's in the shadow of the house a bit. We really could do with a good soaking.

Our bees are out and about when it's above around 12C (3 of the 4 hives, the other seems to want it to be warmer), but they are pretty sluggish. The next 2 days should see them happier and busier if the forecast sun and maxes of 16C are accurate. Also seen a few big queen bumblebees, and I've had to open the garage windows to let at least 2 dozen assorted butterflies out (they probably didn't thank me for it once out).

Morning all! A good start to the day, sun just about breaking through and nice and calm. Temp around the 12.8c mark which is very pleasant! Got my raised beds prepped yesterday and the rest of the veg plot tidied up a bit. My back and shoulders were complaining a bit later on though! Might do a bit more tidying this morning then go for a walk in the afternoon. Forecast looks to be OK ish for the rest of the weekend so should get quite a bit done outdoors! Hope it's good where you all are!

Stange old weather this morning overcast this side of the Firth but bright sunshine, blue skies on the north side with Tarbet Ness lighthouse very clear.

Currently calm and 7c

Aurora Storm and I both think the summer will be good with everyone confined to their houses.

Bit of an edit from yesterdays post I was referring to an old WW2 ammunition box which we painted up as a post box for the end of the farm road during the foot and mouth in 2001.

Yesterday I enjoyed mild if not warm sunshine in Caithness for most of the day although there was still a nagging breeze. Such a change from the previous day's cack. (Cack has squiggly red line under it, do we not all know what cack means?)

This morning there's a pile of discarded layers by the door as we get on with splitting and moving firewood.  Spring is here now with all the damn weeds taking over!

Temperatures struggling to get to 10C with overcast skies. The high resolution gfs was right when predicting the temperatures today. I have the heating on.

Next week could also be very cold. GFS showing temperatures as low as 4 degrees around Edinburgh for midday Tuesday

Another cracking day, bright with sunny intervals and a slight wind. Sitting outside in a tee shirt for the first time this year.

The village i live in is quieter than normal of late, possibly another coronavirus case not to far from here. There's another neighbour, serous underlying health issues, is back in ICU on a ventilator with the virus.

I think at some point, most people will get it.

Clouded over pretty quickly. Had to dash and take the washing in as the farmers turned up with different machinery that kicks up major dust.

Forecast is for rain later on.

Having bursts of sun albeit mostly cloudy skies is really warm when the sun does burst through though

19c now, stupidly went for a 5k which was a terrible decision.

I do have a bit of sympathy for the East coasters as the number of times i’d drive up in shorts and a t-shirt and then have to put a jumper on in Edi was surprisingly frequent.

Gloriously mild down here albeit the trade off is very little real snow (Cries)

Today will be the first BBQ of the year I think

Hazy sun at times through thin cloud. Feeling mild in the light breeze. 12.9C

Do many cyclists think that because they are going quickly that they can't pass on or catch the bug. Just been passed or overtaken by several on our daily walk and only one made any attempt to steer clear. Overtakers the worst because they come up so quickly and there is no time to move off the path. A wee tinkle of the bell would help. As my wife stepped to the side for one he shouted be rational f.f.s.".

Social distancing if you're behind a cyclist is recommended 10 possibly 20 meters.

Lightning on that storm near Girvan. I'm out in the garden and could swear I just heard a rumble of thunder here so not sure if something else popped up or I'm hearing things !

Watching those little showers with interest. Could get a dollop of rain at least (maybe a grumble) who knows what they do as they push up

About 5 minutes of rain from that lot barely damped the ground

Good to see the reports of thunder, the wrf handled it pretty well I was going to comment earlier and say don’t be surprised if it is a total bust as the runs from last night and through today showed less interest and also convective inhibition which is probably why those cells have weakened as they head this way 0D416B47-3AA8-436D-ABF1-3949AFD6EACE.thumb.gif.188a2fae3c4eaf2ee2af288edd675157.gif colder air moving into the East and north east by Monday 4167FDF0-4CB5-4657-A85D-ADA9D25C39B8.thumb.png.9f636be32f6266733e607d0a60261c7a.png also just have Dixie Alley (Alabama, Mississippi etc) in your thoughts on Sunday as a potentially historic tornado outbreak will be taking place with a high risk likely. DC774C54-D4C2-46C9-95DE-6E9ECE80FA34.thumb.gif.fac8138d0a2d72727f175f7474dc59c0.gif

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
