Started sowing spring barley on Monday   and managed to carry on through some brief heavy showers as the soil surface was so dry.. Temperature up but still felt cold in the moderate N wind. Hands suffering with all this washing routine, hacks everywhere so creaming up every night. Warmer temperatures would help. Currently 5c.

All seems normal on the farm apart from getting getting food /prescriptions delivered in .Hopefully wintering sheep will go home to Skye today, lime may be spread and more barley sown.Even have a pair of oyster catchers scouting the fields for a nest sight. Currently 5c with a fresh west wind

As has been said already, it's just so quiet out. No noise from ships in the firth, nothing from the airport (one helicopter a day excepted) and after early evening, no traffic noise. No people in the street, no-one out after dark at all. When there's no wind noise and the birds have settled down for the night, it's silent. Absolutely silent like I can't remember here.

Being so rural we don't notice the difference as much, not at home anyway. Yes the road past the house is quieter but there is the odd car or van still goes past, and the farmer certainly hasn't stopped working/ ploughing/ feeding as he's back and forwards all day.

On Monday I did briefly nip into work (school is open Mon-Wed mornings) with some paperwork and Inverurie was like a ghost town between 9am and 10am. I also went to Aldi for a top up of a few basics, milk etc and I think there were 2-3 other customers in at the time. Hardly saw another car on the roads on the way there and back.

I'm down for the next 'essential & vulnerable' school shift rota. That may even be during the Easter Hols, that's still to be decided. If not it'll be afterwards.

Husband and I used to moan about the A7 - when the wind's in the right direction we hear the noise of the traffic. We used to say this place would be perfect without that bloody road and now it is Although too quiet isn't always great either - youngest son once rented a gamekeepers cottage on a farm.  Fly auld sod gave him it cheapish but then had him do all the repairs including tiling the roof I told him don't you go up on that roof, you dono what you're doing and if you fall off and end up paralysed he will say it was nothing to do with him!!  - and that was up a very quiet and spooky wee road that wound into the hills. I didn't like that house at all. It even had one bedroom with a huge great metal cage in the middle of the floor, enclosing an electric water pump! You had to run it every day to bring up the water.
Only activity here is the shepherd at top of our wee street who is lambing and his quad bike is on the go all day and all night.

@CatchMyDrift dugs look mucky and out of puff  unlike so many of the pampered nuppences round here. (Although I have a not very secret liking for dachshunds which I might indulge when I have time... Can dachshunds run?)

Another boring grey day rolls past... There was a spattering of blue late morning which I took advantage of doing my errands.

Decent day with a max of 12c,  light winds and plenty sunshine early in the morning and then from mid-afternoon onwards.

Ground getting surprisingly dry, had to water some alpines in the raised beds as they were literally wilting through drought.

Not something I usually need to do until mid-May onwards.

That time of year when I start looking for convective potential nothing too exciting showing up at the minute but looking through the wrf nmm notice Sunday which ATM shows low pressure in the Atlantic and the high in Europe drawing up a S / SW flow with a front trying to move in from the Atlantic A5E07C1C-0D47-48A6-9892-C51FFEAE44C1.thumb.png.0b7b54a1e41d0edd2434b0090e968818.png nothing major and CAPE values not that high but if it is a slower moving front and the milder flow develops more could turn into something so I will keep checking.

Blue sky!

Only because the clouds can't hang around because of the very strong wind this morning. That's one feature of this 'winter' that has been consistent, even if not all occurrences have been named storms.

February anomoly charts show that us NEers did relatively well in relation to most others.

March was pretty decent for you also.

Not a bad month at all for many of us.

Meteorologically March has been a relatively average month, certainly when compared to the record-breaking wet February the UK has just seen. The first month of...

Hopefully a warm, sunny and convective late Spring/Summer ahead!

I looked for those charts too but somehow missed them. It certainly explains why, unlike most places, the ground around here is pretty dry

It's been a few weeks since I last posted the weather here in Dunoon has been pretty good recently plenty of days with no rain or wind and sunny as well thanks to that high pressure. On Monday we had a max temp of 11.6c our highest since the 23rd of October a sign at last spring is here. It's all change today though colder in the strong North Westerly wind with gusts around 40mph but for now its still staying dry with some sunny spells. It's looking to stay unsettled for the next few days but at least according to the 00z ECM high pressure may try to make a brief return at the start of next week.

A few showers of wet snow have been rattling past my house this morning. It really is wild at times. On the other had, between the showers it's largely sunny.

Pretty blustery here this morning with a few bins blown over. Sunny intervals and just a few passing light showers. 8C

Blustery up at Loch Tay too as you can see with the boats blown on to the beach from their moorings further out on the loch.

Despite being a die hard coldie, by then the GFS can 'do one'. By mid April I'm looking for temps in the mid teens if possible.

Yes our average turnout  date for the cattle over the years.Have said before that there have been numerous occasions when I have put the cattle out on a warm sunny day only to have them sheltering behind a dyke a few days later in driving snow. This would not be unusual for the time of year.

Currently passing showers of soft hail and 5.5c

I can't see high pressure properly establishing itself over the UK anytime soon. Those low pressures always pushing from the west on the models... however the outlook seems rather changeable with some sunny spells and mild temperatures in between the longer wet and windy periods.

Sunday could be the warmest day of the year so far. 16C predicted for Edinburgh.

Definitely. By mid-April we 'should' be 15C and plenty of sunshine most days. It is supposed to be one of the better months of the year.

Not sure about your location but the average maximum for mid April around here is only about 10C or 11C. While some warmer days are normal, snow has fallen (some significant falls) in most Aprils in my lifetime.
