After the miserable week ahead, looks like some very significant rainfall could be heading our way in the longer term. Low pressure blocked from moving east, with south-westerlies over the UK, in particular scotland. As if we needed more rain.

Up these parts we could definitely use some rain, the fields are like dust bowls and my trees could certainly use a drink.

With what's going on, sustained heavy rain would be useful in keeping the herd indoors.

A few wintry flurries getting through to here too on the fresh Northerly breeze. Last lot best described as soft hail or snow pellets. Wet baws must be low as 2 mtr air temp is over 5C.

I was in the North facing conservatory cleaning the winwow frames just now and watched a wall of white advance towards me over the top of Sui Hill. Even the grass started to turn temporarily white as the wall of graupel hit. Been quite a few very impressive heavy showers of that here this afternoon.

Fine arctic spring day with a fresh north breeze with passing soft hail flurries my favourite spring weather as humidities are low and fields continuing to dry out .No need for rain for a few weeks in this neck of the woods. This is my favourite weather colourful sky and clouds, small wintry showers coming down from the north across the Firth ,very dry air therefore no mud and very cool for physical work outside. Stone picking just now Currently  4.5c

Exactly the same here. Started off though with a 9.30am high of 8.0°C but a very gusty soft hail squall shot through around 11am and temps have bumped around 4°C all afternoon.

Dog walk from the house for our daily exercise down to the Tweed which is getting lower by the day. The valley floor where Finn stands has completely flooded three times this winter:

Took the kids for our daily cycle this morning. Left in warm, glorious, spring sunshine and returned frozen to the marrow. No idea what the temps were but it noticeably dropped! Few graupel showers but otherwise a chilly but fairly nice day. Went to the supermarket to get some essentials (booze and crisps) and was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was! Hope everyone on here is surviving!

I'm not sure that hail flurries are my favourite spring weather scenario.:cc_confused: lol.

However some ploughing has been ongoing around here. Last year it was barley.

I'm actually on strike at the mo - fed up with anticipatory cooking and freezing.

There might be worse films but not many! Most of them will be JW films too.

A day of occasional Hail/Sleet showers interspersed with fleeting glimpses of sunshine and a moderate NE breeze.  Max of 5.5c.

Some more persistent sleet/snow the last hour or so allowing a very slight accumulation of snow on the kids trampoline; all melted on the surrounding grass.

Had to venture out to the shop for the first time in over a week.  Really feel for the shop assistants dealing with customers that ignore the social distancing rules and the general madness of the panic buying and the ensuing extra work.

This conversation at the checkout just summarised it "Mad times" says I, "I just wish I was at home" was the reply.

Just hope the politicians remember after this the debt they owe to the many "little people" in services and the NHS they happily berated in the past .

Anyway, on a more cheery note this is a catchy song for our times.... link

For once in my life, I have been guided by memes/ knowledge. I have not ventured out of my bubble for a week or so, even avoiding my nice part time  Edinburgh neighbours.

However, I am lucky that I'm able to do so. And it is just circumstance, but to read that someone in an area of infection couldn't be bothered to test, beggars belief.

A dry bright and sunny start to the day, so much better than the gloomy cloudy days of late.

Feeling reasonably warm in the sun despite the 2C temperature.

The BBC has an excellent guide on what we still don't know about coronavirus, definitely worth a read as the symptoms may not be confined to a fever, persistent cough and muscle pain.

NW headline: 'British Summer Time begins with a biting wind and wintry showers'... hmm sorry chaps, that was yesterday's weather. Today it's dull, calm and dry.  Oh wait, it's for England, gosh silly me.

We've had a biting wind and wintry showers here. Having said that my (English born) wife says we don't live in proper Scotland and always talks about "going on holiday to Scotland" and "when we move to Scotland".

Ok that's me told. Sorry. I didn't even bother to look at the radar carefully.

Well it was actually Arkansas which suffered the worst from yesterday’s tornadoes with a multi vortex wedge in Jonesboro  (reminiscent of Tuscaloosa) looking at the damage I would say it was an EF4 but you can never be sure with the surveys so we will have to wait and see but a terrible time for those folks with everything else currently going on.

The development speed from a thin funnel to a wedge is ridiculous

Clouded over now but was a glorious morning, which the wife and I took advantage of to go on our government mandated dose of daily exercise. We took an hours walk around the forestry tracks on Midmedden Hill, feeling decent in the sun but the stiff northerly breeze was definitely on the chilly side.

Crikey what a dull day.  Two photos of fairly specialist interest...  The small round lightly pink leaves here are the beginnings of this year's meadow saxifrages near us down towards the lighthouse 916508459_smallmeadowsaxifrages.thumb.jpg.38320a545fab0208197b0e15f712a6e6.jpg

and this rather elegant youth is a challenge to any gardeners - name this plant!  774958382_plantA.thumb.jpg.5849590411742e3acceefb7fb97f7fa9.jpg

Nice day here actually, biting wind but in the sun felt warmish. A high of 8c but typically far lower.

Have to say people are complying with the restrictions very well now. Scotland is also not doing too badly.
I do feel sorry for those city dwellers as being so rural I can almost carry on with a degree of normality.

Going to have to shave my beard off as PPE masks are imminent at work I’m led to believe. Instead of looking 2/3 years older than I am i’ll go the other way (cries)

Nae idea HC, re the plant a,lilly or a vegetable?

This one might be easier. Apologies for the poor pic. It pops up every spring with small but pretty yellow, bell-shaped flowers and fades away quite quickly..
