Woke up to wet snow falling this morning...today has been the worst kind of weather low temperatures and damp its felt really cold all day.

It looks like we might get some drier weather this week hopefully some sunshine too which will make a nice change from all the recent grey.

Down to see Aurora Storm in Edinburgh at the weekend and as above saw many saturated fields just like  ours even on the high grade Lothian soils..Probably think all winter cereals are compromised now as they all look a terrible colour and in need of nutrients but tractors would just sink applying fertiliser.  Higher bread prices in the autumn? A lot of English wheat never sown last autumn and growers thinking of fallowing to allow soil structure to repair itself. Ground is the wettest I have ever seen it in over 50 years.A chink of light is that land nearer Aberdeen seems to be dryer.

Fine day here too with a ground frost at 2c but would need a succession of them for a few weeks to allow ground to dry out.

Apparently Aberdeen had its sunniest ever February! So far here today it has been sun all the way  after early frost lifted. Clouds appearing to the West just now though. Currently 5.6C

Gorgeous Spring morning here with not a cloud in sight. Cool but beginning to warm up in the sunshine. 3.1C

Absolutely stunning morning. More please. If it ain't gonna snow then I'll take this for weeks. Cloudless sky, actually feels warm in the sun. Enjoyed my cycle more than I have for a while. Just lovely. Another morning like this and I might take my time and get the camera out on the way into work

Just to put our recent grim weather in perspective!

Deadly tornadoes kill seven in Nashville, Tennessee

Sadly I have colleagues caught up in this mess. One colleagues parents have lost their house. Another lives in an area where some of her neighbours have lost everything. She was incredibly lucky!

Funny you mention that @Quinach

The North East of Scotland has always done well for sunshine - 2015 to 2019 charts below against the 1981-2010 average.

Scotland in general pretty decent for sunshine over the years above.

Even this year (January and February 2020 charts below against the 1981-2010 average)

5B40F81B-701A-4898-952A-84BCE7C85EE8.thumb.gif.7e10e721b2fb10264544d10449d754b0.gif0B6E7299-4FAA-4DD3-9CAA-1B8265BF1A09.thumb.gif.24bedad75b791dfa4ecb377b6c57bbec.gif

North East Scotland the place to be for some good old sunshine. (All of Eastern Scotland enjoying more sun than the West!)

When it comes to rainfall amounts against the 1981-2010 average for the same years above - it’s more mixed.

Looking at all that we seem to be a bit drier/sunnier over the last five years compared to the period from 1981-2010.

Regional differences and huge monthly swings in weather as expected - not a bad climate to live in though and pretty tame/predictable for most of the year.

With regards to our current weather I can’t complain! Plenty of sunshine, wee light showers passing through and you can feel the warmth from the sun. (Very chilly once the late afternoon/early evening kicks in though!)

This sums up today here.

Snow line on the hills/mountains over in Argyll roughly 400/450 meters. (Still a ton of snow above 600 meters)

Looks as though it will hang around for a while.

All pretty much what you would expect from early March weather - frosts knocking about over the next couple of days as well.

Nothing much going on really - no lowland snowfall and not warm enough for Spring warmth. (15C and sunshine!) Nice enough though - can’t complain.

On that note have a wonderful week everyone and hopefully we (snow lovers) get a decent Spring snowfall before the proper warmth arrives - looking forward to either!

Tornadoes are scary enough during daylight but going through such a hugely populated area in the early hours of the morning must be absolutely terrifying for the people who live in these places.

Tornado season does not peak until April/May as well - hopefully no more casualties from Nashville or anywhere else over the coming months.

@101_North sorry to hear that hope they are all ok. And @Mr Frost I have been posting the twitter pics and vids in the other thread and here is the live news link https://youtu.be/NwI9TspJFW8

Night time tornadoes must be terrifying, thoughts and prayers to all those affected and it will be interesting to see the rating the tornadoes get once they do the damage surveys but looking at the pics probably at least F3?

That image you linked too is actually an area in East Nashville where I went a few times when I was there recently! Flattened! Unreal.

The one remaining colleague has finally got a call through to our manager. She is OK but she's stuck in her house with no power or WiFi. She can't get out due to debris blocking both her exits and is just waiting for the emergency services to arrive. Which given she's OK might be quite some time. Scary stuff!

Thirtieth air frost at -1.3C. Loving that it's now properly light from 06.30.
