It's a great pub and Rab & Rachel are lovely. On the camera, this one is hardwired to the internet and powered over ethernet but the one on the hill is solar powered and uses an antenna pointed at Sanquhar so as to overcome the RF interference from the radar dome. I really can't imagine a location at which winterhighland's Alan couldn't get a webcam working one way or another. He's a genius with them

How's it going?

Crisp blue morning in the Caithness wastelands. More crusted mud and scummy ditches.

Very well I steered clear of vasectomy and have avoided adding to the 4 kids but have a complete lack of snow

There's a wee dead-end road in Leadhills that goes up to the railway line that runs to Wanlockhead. It's the last remaining operational part of a narrow gauge line that carried the ores away, and the route of the track can be seen running alongside the road all the way down to Elvanfoot where it linked with a siding at what's now the West Coast mainline.

The off grid, solar storage hill camera I'm referring to is the one on Lowther Hill itself at around 720 m ASL, one which we installed a couple of years earlier than the Hopetoun Arms one, pretty much straight after we built the ski tow engine hut.

Travelled by train from Montrose to Glasgow today.

Between Dundee, Perth and Stirling, the water levels were about as high as I have ever noticed. Purely observational, of course, but the outer Tay, at almost high tide, appeared to have been contained by the sump/pumping work etc east of Perth, but westwards the Earn has flooded acres of agricultural land. It was odd to see a Gooseander swimming in a field. Fortunately, no homes which I passed by were affected, although the Allan Water looked rough passing through Bridge of Allan.

Anyway, Glasgow was mild and drizzly, with the usual  grumpy taxi drivers.

Edit: Of course, I didn't mention there was a sprinkling of snow on the Ochils.:oldmellow:

Good move. Mine's come back to bite repeatedly over the years.

Moving on.... a day of three turds here - cold raw and sunny start, dull grey middle and a very wet end.

I wasn't expecting it to be frosty last night this morning my car had a thick ice crust, during the day the temp found its way up to 9 deg/C its not far of that now.

Weather boredom is kicking in for me now - Winter 2019/20 has been a non starter for prolonged cold or snow.
Outlook is for more of the same with snow above 200 meters (surprise surprise!) and wintry showers on low ground - in between the mild/wet days!

Ten days of Meteorological Winter to go...I’m now half searching for cold/snow and the other half warmth/sunshine! (I would have taken a repeat of the great weather we had in the last week of February 2019)

Roll on Summer...repeat of last year would be great from a convective/thunderstorm/warmth point of view!

Would also not mind a repeat of the heat/sunshine of 2018!

83E00B9C-1A7F-440C-AF7E-C76F981578C9.thumb.gif.acc71b41442bf4a5c3ad68c204f5de52.gif22CF1237-C965-4930-B220-486E0684177A.thumb.gif.8217a1f51d5a9690a5e9b6a0936bd789.gif2EFD7E4A-CEDE-4CC5-80F7-68967597E622.thumb.gif.71d82d13129618768eae14814c95c33f.gif

I don’t know if my weather preferences are changing but Summer is beginning to hold the most excitement for me nowadays! Winter 2018/19 and Winter 2019/20 have been absolutely dreadful from a cold/snow point of view.
Summer delivers the goods nowadays while Winter has become an extension of Autumn...

Was just having a browse of my pictures from last Summer...has put me right in the mood for it!

Looking forward to some big convection/thunderstorms and those first 25 degrees days! Bring on those warm/light Summers nights!

Hopefully some decent snowfall for us all before the late Spring warmth appears.

Have a good night.

In my opinion, storms are starting to get more frequent in Scotland then they ever had been before. Usually it would be the south that gets all the storms, but recently Scotland is starting to become the thunderstorm capital!

Around 10 years ago, I used to get monstrous storms here, especially between the 2010-16 months. But now, things are changing quickly. If I didn't go to Florida, then I would have only had two major storms here, one on the 23rd-24th July, and the 27th August (that I was actually there for) meaning that I only witnessed one major storm.

Besides that, incredible photos! Especially the first photo you took, with that lonely cumulonimbus that looks like it starts to die out over the hills. If you lived in the coasts of Florida, then you would see at least one of those every summer morning!

Snow showers in Caithness too so presumably country-wide. Are my wet balls cold enough though?

Some hail and sleet here, if only dew points and wet baws, sorry bulbs were lower this could have been turning into a decent winter for us over the last few weeks after the non event so far

I think that's quite enough of your baws for this week
