It's not about the size of the measuring stick it's how you use it. But when it comes to snowfall depths size does matter

Afternoon all

I have thirteen pages to catch up on!

Well it was all rather underwhelming here...even when I managed to get up the local hill at 100 meters...all I seen was wet snow/hail! The amount of hail showers over the past three days has been incredible! 

My son (almost two years old) has had a wee sickness bug over the last forty eight hours so my hopes of heading up 400 meters hills and above didn’t happen. 

There have been some fantastic cloudscapes and plenty of snow above 350 meters over in Argyll. (Settling down to 50/100 meters but quickly melting during daytime)

Most of the big showers were going North and South of me 99% of the time! Could see them all heading over the Cowal Peninsula/Arrochar Alps and also North/East Ayrshire/South Lanarkshire! Bloody @Ross B and @Stormeh also directly in the path numerous times! 

 

 

Few rumbles/flashes of thunder and lightning this morning overhead. 

 

Hopefully see a wee bit of snowfall here at sea level tomorrow morning! 

Time to read all the pages I have missed!  Looking forward to all the snow reports/pictures/videos!

Leaving from Liberton at 8:30/9 to Dumfries.

Class, should see some snow! Not sure what road to take but I know A702 (From Crawford South) has only just re-opened an hour or two ago so not that one

Hail or graupel? 
Graupel is really common in the East Neuk when we see ‘wintry showers’ (so not that common then!) I’ve probably seen more graupel than snow in my time here!

We normally have a good view of the Pentland Hills from work but could hardly see them all day so they must have been getting leathered with snaw, it cleared up just before finishing time and they looked amazing and very white.

I must try and take a camera with me to get a long range shot.

I think it was graupel actually, was hard to tell with it blowing about so much  remembering back to the BFTE there was plenty of graupel then.

Had to leave cows inside today as we had mini lakes in every field after last nights continuous sleet. Started feeding wintering sheep some hay as well.

Finally getting light showers of snow this afternoon at 1.5c as sky clears a bit. Hills round us too are solid white. A frosty looking sunset too. so hopefully ground will dry up a bit again. Surface water has mostly gone today as shower activity decreased.

This last shower has settled on the grass and bare soil so we have a dusting and with a little streamer to the west coming towards us maybe a little more this evening.

A nice sunny afternoon here in Dunoon this mornings thunder seemed to help clear the air we've had no showers all afternoon just sunshine. I took a few photos with my phone of the snow on the hills.

Brilliant stuff @Kirkcaldy Weather - can’t believe you got snow! Almost better than last Winter! 

Amazing pictures/videos everyone! Really enjoyed viewing them all!

Special mention for the wind over the last few days - it was near constant gale force gusts! Absolutely bitter as well - freezing cold! 

I enjoyed this wee isolated/lonesome wintry shower - just drifting along minding its own business surrounded by blue sky. 

Lastly as this big time wintry shower below approached me I thought to myself...this is it...Winter 2019/2020 has been building up to this moment...long wait is finally over...here comes big fluffy snowflakes overhead...

 

This is what arrived...

Good old graupel...and a snowflake or two blowing around.

Heavy settling snow for about 2 hours in 'upland' Caithness this afternoon (ie ground above about 80m) so I got caught in it, out and about, rolling around like a puppy, chucking snowballs at the project manager (both lies, sorry) then down to Hakirk (40m) where it's still sleet.

Poor sheep the last few days. The ones around here look like they've gone into stasis now after several very cold wet and windy days, stuck out in fields with nowt but a barbed wire fence for shelter.
