There is no debate, it's always a Forth-Clyde streamer, or just a general Forth generated streamer. We'd need a freakish cold southerly wind for the Firth of Clyde to produce a streamer and then it would be heading north.

How about we talk isthmuses now, or is it isthmii?

More like peninsulae.  Or in the case of the Inglish, just insular. (Just thought I'd sneak that one in for later this evening. Still seething.)

The 12z ECM is strongly on board for some of the GFS's nonsense for 10 days from now:

AO is going off the scale (almost). Charts like this could well become reality this February, in which case I’d be more worried about the wind than hoping for snow.

Or even better, snow & wind. It all looks very January 1993.

Really is bonkers the last frames of the latest ECM...

@101_North tried to re-watch your video but for some reason I'm getting Roy Orbison .

Still quite windy tonight, cats enjoying the milder weather so at least someone's happy.

Couple of interesting comments from Matt Hugo BBC weather this morning.

Signs of cold weather later in February. ☝️Another mild week ahead.

Parts of the UK have yet to register a frost this winter. Kirkwall's last frost wast 19th November 2019.

Let's hope so, and we can rescue what has been a tedious winter for the most part.

Breezy here this morning, cloudy and dry. Doesn't look too bad for us to get our remaining 140 tree saplings planted.

Was that the 28th by any chance?

Morning of the 29th if my memory serves me correctly.

We had snow every day for a full week and by the 2nd of December we had over 2 and a half foot of level snow in the back garden.

Bathgate just along the road is on the met office website for having a snow depth of 71cm by the 2nd of December.

I reckon we easily matched that, if not having a bit more

I will check my pics later, not sure what day the streamer was but we got hammered either the 28th or 29th in Kilmacolm. The memories defo reached middle age now with all this talk of yesteryear.

Still find it hard to decide between that streamer event Nov 2010 and BFTE for my number 1. The November 2010 event was also the first time I experienced thunder snow which really is a brilliant experience might not have matched the length of time @Norrance and his Dundee pals got it for back then

Watching these forecasts still make me excited

A dry start which quickly gave way to something wetter. Surprised that Aberdeen was colder than Alford this morning, that doesn't happen often.

Looking good for a chilly evening, tomorrow looks fairly grim then lots of wind Monday into Tuesday.

Bravo on planting 140 trees

Put in more than 60 last weekend, so over 200 in total when we finish. Typically, as we went out to start planting it started with blustery showers, and now we've come in for lunch the sun has come out. Let's hope the sun wins out this afternoon as the wind definitely has a northerly aspect to it and therefore an edge to it (but for Feb it's actually pretty pathetic).

Hi Mr Frost, this was the scene on the west coast of the Isle of Man in March 2013 where I used to live before moving up to Rheanbreck in 2016, and last one from 2018 Rheanbreck

Cracking photos. Best snow storm in the West (Southern bias) of Scotland in a long time. Had a good 12 inches here in Dumfries. Best since the millennium - 95/96 springs to mind when I was born

Nah, just trying to screen off a big garden. It's also a wildlife friendly mix (rowan, hazel, willow, crab apple, blackthorn, hawthorn, dog rose) so will be good for our bees and the local birds etc. We'll mostly cut it back to form a hedge one the trees are big enough, but let some grow full size.

Got about 100 planted today so should be able to finish the rest tomorrow. Sun didn't stay out while we did it, but the rain stayed off so not too bad.

Sounds great.

I did something similar, excluding the hazel, where I used to live - though a professional gardener did all the hard work!

A neighbouring farmer was very encouraging and helpful as well, by tipping over loads of wood chippings into the garden in order to keep the weeds down in the border. Spreading that was hard work.  I remember youngest grandson, 3 yrs at the time, arriving for a w/e stay and commenting as we arrived,  ' Grandma, you've got a new mountain in your garden'

Damp and mild at home this morning, then lots of rain most of the way to Edinburgh but it held off while I went pottering around Calton Hill with youngest HC. But we could see the black band heading in from the north so headed down for an afternoon of café-hopping while it piddled down. Not too keen on wet streets but they're not as bad as a muddy construction site.

Back home tonight to a clear sky and -2C.  All change again tomorrow!

Just arrived in Tennessee for work. T-shirt weather with 18-19c and sun for the next few days! Will pay for it Tuesday onwards though as it's meant to be very wet!

Big change from yesterday.

Hard frost and -5C.

It's certainly frostier than I expected, so much so that with bleary eyes I almost thought we'd had a dusting of snow. Just had to scrape a well frozen car too, to take one of the neighbours dogs home. Not the first time she's paid us an unexpected visit across the fields and along the road. Came in useful though as we sent her in to wake our teenage son up, something that tends to be dangerous for us as parents to do.

Damp and cool here. Snowing to relatively low levels up towards Highland Perthshire. This is the Aberfeldy to Killin road and the second is the A9.
