Latest wrf nmm 2km run coming out now and key issue (potential spoiler) as we have seen before in the past when it is lowering pressure in the centre of the lower pressure the 850 temps are always slightly warmer (mild sector) and this on the wrf nmm pretty much tracks over here meaning rain then possible back edge snow

image.thumb.png.93433ea598ff7d4b10e007c9268a2035.png < lower pressure nmm_uk1-42-14-3.thumb.png.12a7a85c3c8275a22e01cd7df97572a8.png rain / sleet more likely nearest centre of lower pressure (here, Kirkcaldy a good example unfortunately )  however as the low moves E / NE more likely to be snow on back edge  anim_pjp5.thumb.gif.ecc07c6995ffd8127cfa75ef2671da43.gifnmm_uk1-45-20-3.thumb.png.351e4a5157bf84ccf3b253c214ec408e.png

so the exact track of that lower pressure will be key, could well be a few surprises but on the other hand one slight shift and it could be disappointment, as it is so complex I am not even going to try and attempt a snow risk map

Good luck all and fingers crossed we can all see a bit of snaw.

Noticed a massive flock of geese in the vale of Alford around 0930. I've lived here since 2004 and have never seen geese in these numbers before - a genuine WTF moment!

Given the bright conditions and distance between the geese and myself, a rough estimate of numbers could be made. I reckon well over a thousand and that's a conservative figure.

The geese were circling over an area as opposed to following their usual flight paths - unusual behaviour. Possibly an early departure from their wintering grounds?

Definitely a sight to behold.

Currently 9.5C and wall to wall sunshine.

Just a quick update to the above.

The geese and swans haven't been sighted locally in over a week.I suspect that the mild temperatures have prompted an early departure.

Can't help but think the temps are wee bit too high yet. Wet bulb etc. Will post a very latest pic of entire UK in approx 45 mins once NOAA 15 satellite passes.

In my youth I saw this lot supporting Moby at the Eden Project in Cornwall.

Waiting with bated breath to see if we get a snowflake or two tonight

Just watched the Sean Batty forecast you posted - have a 100 meters (98 meters officially ) hill right beside me so hopefully I can head up there first thing in the morning for a snow fix! (If I don’t get anything at sea level)

Kilmacolm looking good @CatchMyDrift

Also expecting snow pics from @Stormeh and @Ruzzi in the early hours.

Here we have live (7:15pm) view . Thermal imagery shows a cold spool associated with the cloud at Borders currently.

This tedious erse of a winter doesn’t provide many snow cover days so here’s a pic update from here today, more the further west you go. Hope tonight delivers for those looking

Some pretty beefy snow showers passed through Inverness today and it was very noticeable how quick the temp dropped just before they hit... so you never know

100% snow @JamesM - might be a treacherous drive for you in the morning if heading back that way! (You do have the good tyres on though!)

That band moving slowly North/North East into South Lanarkshire/Glasgow in about half an hour is just the starter. (I think this will be mostly sleet at low levels but as Sean Batty said...snow above 100 meters!)

Main course arrives later tonight/early hours!

Lots of wintry goodies out to the West.

It is great to see after such a dismal Winter so far!
Setting my alarm for 1am incase I fall asleep!

Work in Greenock @Mr Frost and have been doing the commute via the B786 and B788 for 10 winters now, having put winter tyres on for the last 7. Almost didn't this year as I hadn't realised the price of tyres for the new car!

Been an interesting commute over the years. Since using winter tyres I have only been thwarted once.

Hopefully see a bit of the white stuff on the way in tomorrow.
