UKMO T168 looks a lot more like the ECM than the GFS 0z or 6z with the ridge building to the west of the UK:

That looks fantastic from a coldies perspective!!surprised steve aint commented on it!!if that high arcs around the uk favourably then an easterly 24 to 48 hours later is not impossible!

Plenty to keep us interested this morning

we also have some eps clusters which separate a cut off upper ridge away from the Azores base - good direction of travel

All eyes on the Atlantic sector post Christmas ..

Direction of travel  going by the GFS 6z  is height rises over or near us  then migrating  around the Scandi  area    The mean suggests  that  the high at this juncture does not allign  for any cold to head our way     though of cause very much subject to change.

Still plenty of scatter though and a long way to go...

On its own, I wouldn't take the GFS Operational run too seriously; it is, though, one of six members clustered at around 10C T850s, around December 31...

That said, the 2m temperatures, between December 30 and January 1, are clearly outliers.:shok:

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
