Personally if we can’t get any decent cold and snow I’d much rather see some deep Atlantic storms with severe gales, at least for me that’s exciting

No thanks. Bad enough that we’ve got flooding to contend with. Structural damage on top of that accompanied by even more rain (which we’ve had too much of already) would push many people over the edge..

From a weather enthusiasts point of view it’s much more exciting, minus the floods and damage of course

If we were coming out of a long settled spell, then yes, but seeing as we've had the above for best part of 3 months, even that on repeat gets exceedingly boring.

Absolutely, I don’t like any weather type on repeat, just a couple of notable storms to keep me interested

Sure. Despite the lengthy unsettled phase we are in, its notable how few actual storms we’ve had. I think I’ve registered a gale once in November and once in December!

Now I’m not bothered. Could do with shutting off the Atlantic for two months, come back in March for a few weeks like last year then spring!

I remember the 2nd November storm that wasn’t named but produced near 90mph gusts here, but zilch other than that... yes can’t wait for ‘chilling in the garden with a beer’ weather.

With my preference winter 2013/14 can either be classed as one of the best winters for me in terms of how many storms or one of the worst in terms of no snow. ⛄:pardon:

I know exactly what you mean, I’d rather a snowy winter but in terms of excitement stormy would be 2nd best

You can pay to replace my damaged fence panels then in that event, like I had to pay to replace them in 2013/14.

January been affected the most perhaps in the modern eera, although February not far behind

I know you look back at the winters of the 1990s through dewy eyes but the Januarys of the 1990s were not exactly snowfests.

I saw more days with lying snow in January 2010 alone than the whole of the Januarys of the 90s combined.

perhaps all about location, but 90's were not as good as 80's and earlier, wasn't here for amazing 70's, 80's winters

Yep this winter is the winter of altitude so far. It was a toss up for me between going to NE Europe or the Alps for Christmas. I’m glad I chose the Alps even though it’s been a bit marginal in Chamonix too.
