It's as well to remember that that low starts off life over the Carolinas on Sunday and has a long way to travel and develop over day 8 and 9 which is why the outcome is completely different to the previous run

Next week looks utterly vile.

Hopefully signalling the end of a pathetic winter.

January 1984 severe blizzards in scotland next week.

Looks as though the Northern Hemisphere is primed, once again, for a summer of widespread all-time highs?

Yes, seeing early heat build like that is a tell tale sign.  Something has changed!

It won’t come July with temps potentially mid-40’s in those regions and very high 30’s for the UK.

Gota say, I hope the UK can tap into some of those low 20's this month, and maybe beat last February's record. Something to make the winter truly unforgettable.

One thing weatherwise worse than a horrid mild winter, is having your roof blown off as well.  Looking a next weeks charts this seems a real risk!

Maybe the bigger they are, the harder they fall. I've just got a bad feeling we will see a cold spring this year.

It's anyone's guess really!  I have always wondered whether something along the lines suggested below is plausible:

1) Mild winter=(usually) a +AO with cold bottled up in the northern latitudes

2) Feb-March=natural breakdown of the sPV/tPV as we head into Spring

3) Breakdown of the sPV/tPV causes a cold start to Spring as there's an unusual amount of deep cold lingering, which is forced to more southerly latitudes in one last hurrah by pressure rises at northern latitudes

Makes sense in my mind at least, though I have no evidence to back this up, and I imagine the other scenario is simply that as the sPV/tPV breaks down, the cold dissipates too rapidly for many places to benefit.  Would be interested to see if any correlation exists for +AO winters and cold Springs in our neck of the woods?

But alas, my prior rant was centred around the forecast zonal wind speeds remaining above the average seen for Dec-Jan, even heading towards March...which would be funny if it wasn't so horrifying a thought

Personally I’m hoping for a wetter than average and cooler than average summer. No floods but a summer of HLB with a cool Polar flow would be great.

ECM Day 9 > 10 continues to show promise with some mediocre heights in situ to the North & some atlantic ridging.
At the very least perhaps some snow for Ireland & the west day 10.

Do we have some hope left within? .....is a day 10 ECM chart on the 3rd Feb enough to console the hurt of winter 2019-2020.......let’s be positive and say “YES.....YES god dam it is” .....it is enough....we will succeed, we will sledge with our kids - or nephews and nieces - or on own own if we have to - we will take that walk with the dogs battling the Dawn blizzard - we will see those cars and fields snow covered - we will walk to the shop to get the milk and bread - we will get the car stuck on the hill and have to walk the rest of the way - we will watch the news and laugh how everyone in London is useless when there is a dusting ........we will be winter warriors and British ones at that ! ;)
(failing that....there is always next year :0)

Last summer was nothing out of the ordinary nothing like 1990 record heat.

I imagine that it will be a very miserable LP dominated summer. Very like 2007 I feel. Followed on from a rubbish winter aswell that year. This ridiculous boring pattern has to change sometime, my hunch it will be April/May onwards.

Urban heating bouncing on solar panels.

No record here far from it.
