That East17 song “Stay another Day” is another for 1995 though I have a feeling it came out the previous winter. In 1995 it started snowing here on Christmas Eve and by Boxing Day there was an even 6 inches. This freeze last until the New Year.

It was number one in Dec 1994, which was a very mild month overall..

It's got to be In The Bleak Midwinter for me.

Winter/Christmas Eve of 1981, I was in Young Farmers, we were booked to do the rounds of local big houses, carol singing for charity, the only way we could get around was on skis. I'll never forget the surreal sight of coming out of Great Tew church (in the Cotswolds) after midnight mass and seeing rows of skis stood up against the church. Snow had fallen, snow on snow, it lasted for weeks, cut villages off, it was like middle England had turned into the Austrian Tyrol. For me, still the best winter ever.

Ellie Goulding's cover of Elton John's Your Song, released late 2010, is the only song I associate with Winter. I was a paper boy and would hear it very often in the newsagent when I was picking up my papers for delivery. Seemed to fade as the cold did.

That’s a lovely story. I love “Inthe Bleak Midwinter” also

Theres a good version by Bert Jansch which I always mistook for Ralph McTell until many years later

This Pete Seeger classic always reminds me of 1969-70, which I spent in Tunbridge Wells:

There had to be a Xmas song eventually but this George Michael song stands out for me for 2009 as we were frozen from mid December to mid January, although definitely not as much snow as 2010.

I always thought this came out in 2010 (turns out it was 2011) but it’s a post-truth world, so it doesn’t matter!

OMD - Maid of Orleans (Joan of Arc)...December 1981, filmed in North Yorkshire...if this doesn't remind you of that cold snowy period I don't know what will....when musicians were talented, enjoy!

Katrine's post in the other thread reminded me of this...1979, I believe:

Wrong. It was from spring of 1980, late Feb or March of 80, but maybe it was getting AirPlay in late 79, although I highly doubt that was the case.

I was listening to a retro countdown from this time in 1979, so I’m looking forward to hearing Pink Floyd and The Police when we move into December.

And while on the subject, I’ve moved from November 79 to November 1980. Disco has faded during this period and less dominant, new wave has become more popular, while punk is also on the slide. Loving to two tone ska stuff by Madness.

The winter of 80-81 was mild in London. We moved before the Christmas of that year.

Not a cold winter, but whenever I hear Sad Cafe’s Every Day Hurts, it reminds me of end of autumn/winter 1979, heading into 1980.

Also, Walking on the Moon, and Video Killed the Radio Star.
