With hosts Japan to qualify if the game is called off, I fully expect the game to be called off.

They probably hope that Samoa beat Ireland so that Scotland and Japan would qualify if the game was called off.

How likely is it that a) sunday's are called off and b) Japan top the group?  -  because for sustained winds of not far off 100mph, it looks very generous odds on Japan to top the group still.

The Scotland rugby team look like they're going to be stuffed.

It's quite incredible that with ten years of planning no contingency was give to Typhoon impacts and you're not telling me, that if is was New Zealand or England facing elimination that some contingency would be worked out.

Thanks for starting this thread. Have some friends out there going to the rugby and the F1, lucky so and so's.

There are two links in the blog, english advice in case of Japan issuing various warnings. What a shame for people who travelled so far. Hopefully everyone in the region will be able to stay safe today and this weekend.

And Ireland could still have topped the group. Not that makes a huge amount og difference tbh. Don't particularly fancy facing either SA or NZ.

Feel for Scotland, but safety has to come first

I agree, safety comes first, but they've had 10 years to work out contingency situations.

I wonder if there are contingencies for the semi finals and finals....there may be more typhoons yet.

This is a very powerful typhoon! I hope the Japanese people and visitors stay safe.

I do feel sorry for the Japanese, just a narrow strip of land and yet they get so much severe weather and of course earthquakes too.

My husband has just spoken to some work peeps based in Japan (late at night there) and I asked him to  ask them what it's like out there at the moment.

I got the answer 'Historical'

I haven't heard any mention of the Fukushima nuclear site  ?
I wondered if there are fears for additional radiation leaks with this typhoon and huge seas.

Agreed, now 1 hour later I am sure I would be very scared indeed if I was there! It is raising my heart rate just listening to it!

I'm having my doubts whether its legit.

The reason I say that is earlier there was footage at an airport and the particular aircraft was a Pokémon 777 reg JA754A parked at the gate.  That aircraft is now back in ANA livery and has been since 2016

I cannot say of course but I have been watching that sea for 5 mins now and it has got steadily worse as one would expect. I am on South Coast of England and in the great storm of 87 we had winds gusting to over 100mph. It sounded like this but not as loud.

Just be glad the English Rugby team had the sense to move away from the area for a while!

15 minutes later and dawn is beginning to break in Japan and the scenes on this video show that, so I would guess, yes it is real!

I wouldn't wish weather that severe on anyone tbf. I'd like to watch nature like this unleash itself on an uninhabited island. From afar
