I'm getting the sense this month will end up average and, if it does, it will put the year overall in pretty close alignment with 1734.

That being the case  I'm inclined to expect a chilly October, a slightly above average November and a slightly below average December.

My provisional guesses would be

Oct  8.5C

Nov 6.4C

Dec  3.8C

I will play devils advocate here and go for a cooler than average October, cold first half of November and very mild second half of November. December will start very mild, similar to 1979, 1986 and 2000, before turning very cold after the 20th. The Christmas period will be sunny and frosty but no snow. Coldest since 2010, setting us up for a white New Year’s Day.

I would go 10.2C for October, I think that it will be relatively cool and wet.

I think the Nov-Jan period will be largely mild but vary between zonal and blocked near the UK as I don’t think the AO will be as persistently positive as some early winters (though I expect attempts at blocking to largely fail). Predictions of 7.6C, 5.1C and 4.9C.

I do think Feb-March will be largely cooler, drier and snowier than average.

October 11.2c (the run of warm ones is dead), November 6.1c (rain and plenty of it) and finally December (putting my head on the line and I can see something akin to December 2017) 4.1c.

I've got a hunch we may get a decent winter this year.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
