Well what the radar is picking up over Dover, not a drop is reaching the ground still.

At last, we have rain, still no thunder though.

I'm never one to exagerrate storm activity but constant rolling thunder here, some distance away, I can only guess it's the ex-Thetford storm? Definitely not aircraft!

The anvil from that storm is just about visible here to the east/north east. Unsure if any part of it is actually going to hit here but there is a nasty line of very intense rainfall on the western edge.

The sun is out here a little, temperature 23c, dew point 20c....

Quite explosive development to the E of Kent, all moving NW towards E Anglia....will they develop further? Storms firing over N France too, as the clag has cleared there

It feels like I'm in the perfect position today at last :yahoo: just finished with a brief but terrential downpour. Looks like plenty on the horizon! Sun now out and feels steaming hot. Today has made up for the past 4 days without a doubt! Could be a great days storms for EA

Lots of thunder now, some low cloud based on this.

Still very murky here, some thunder in the distance and still no rain.

Hurling it down, garden not coping with this amount of rain, constant inter-cloud lightning. This would have looked good at night.

First storm through, not sure whether another will make it here as low cloud has piled in behind that cell.

Big thunderstorm here. Still ongoing with definitely no garden watering required today

I notice the torrential rain has created a sense of humour in my normally sensible weather station.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
