Hope the radar forecast on Home and Dry is wrong... it shows the storm hitting the south coast and then just spreading between 11-midnight and not pushing inland

Getting rather active here, with flashes every 2-10 seconds from numerous cells

I’m getting 18-19th June 2019 vibes from this, and that was one of the best nocturnal  t-storms I’ve ever had the pleasure to witness

Can see frequent flashes to the South and SW from here too. No thunder and it’s dead calm again...want that lovely breeze back to flush the heat out of upstairs

23 outside actually feels quite cool, who would think that in uk at 10.30 at night, sure I could hear rumbles of thunder in the distance seen no lightning yet

Can hear reasonably regular distant thunder in the channel

Some nice cloud to sea forks every 2 or three minutes.

So a 3/10 so far certainly better than nothing!

In my head i has it that the stuff in the channel was to move up to the south coast and die out. Now I realise that it was always due to just stall. There’s no flow to bring anything into south east England

Well then...way back when I was wee, there were two things that were a given: East Anglia got not only the best thunderstorms in summer, but also some of the best snowstorms, in winter... Did I move here 50-years' too late!

Well, only about 30 years to be truthful!

I moved to Norfolk in 1986 - our first winter 86/87 we had huge snowfalls, were snowed in and the windchill was something like -15! And then after that it was all about the storms for probably a good 15-20 years. I used to do dog training classes at my old house on a Wed eve, I lost count of the times my friend phoned me and said "have you got a storm cos it's bloody awful here", or I'd be phoning round saying "training cancelled again, sorry!" Always on a blooming Wednesday....

Looks like the Channel cell is exploding into a super cell, a daughter system is forming towards Lille so I think this front will hit Kent and Sussex, Essex likely to get it eventually too.

I hope so. We got any idea of a rough timescale?

Seems the French have a special delivery for us - may be just a Kent Clipper but one to watch.

I can here the thunder now, and it sounds like a storm that can stay where it is. Rather than rumble rumble, it went rumble boom boom boom rumble boom. No thanks for that over my head lol. Mind you it doesn't seem that active. Hope I'm not speaking to soon.

Low cloud piled on here during the early hours. Currently overcast and with the wind direction it could be like this for several days. Hopefully it will burn off.

Heatwave broken by light patchy rain moving up from France!

Jeez, what has happened in recent years to our imported storms?

Summer after summer as a kid I used to stand with my Dad on the beach watching storms over France tracking across the channel( usually two or three times per summer)

Even remember the words on the shipping forecast synopsis.

'Thundery low Paris ( or some other part of Northern France/Biscay) expected Isle of Wight ( or some other Southern uk part) by 0500.) They very often used to arrive by midnight.

I really cant see the SE coasts benefiting from the home grown stuff predicted for Southern England today?
