A pretty sticky morning with temperatures rising up to 24c by lunchtime. Some flashes on the radar over the south and west of the region so will be keeping an eye on whether I need to get the washing in.

Now have a few spots of rain and can hear thunder.

Wow look at this lot coming in and I’m sure I’ve seen this is due to intensify over us .

I'll raise you a 'wow' Mark. The rainfall echo for the south of the Region looking impressive and with a line of lightning activity in there too.

Lightning activity now moved into Norfolk. This all seems to be coming through much earlier than the models were suggesting this morning.

Had a storm earlier that just missed me to my north but I managed to see a few flashes and hear some rumbles.

Hopefully this evening will deliver something better...

Chances of that lot intensifying? Just had rain here all afternoon.

That second lot of rain has just passed through and it was nothing really , Looking at the radar it seemed to lose its oomph before it came through.

And here's the evidence that your observation was spot on Mark. In fact, both bands of rain coming through the Region yesterday (Sat) rapidly lost their oomph as they progressed east. We both posted about the first pulse in the afternoon, but look how it had fragmented and fizzled by 18.00:

2020286059_Radar25July15_05.thumb.jpg.008154b6af82022ca1af5d299d2c235a.jpg198493563_Radar25July18_00.thumb.jpg.68392eb7adb1c4e21d79a9b509f5c191.jpg

And then the second band at 21.00 and again at 22.30 (and for interest, the NMM forecast earlier in the day was spot on with the timing):

783775459_Radar25July21_00.thumb.jpg.92f7d68773c8aa507e0063aed9018216.jpg661277202_Radar25July22_30.thumb.jpg.28442007b4ee6241f4e074ff06773f3d.jpg

As a result of the fizzle effect, it's no surprise to see greater rainfall totals in the west of the Region yesterday with not much rain for some on the very east coast. It looks like Pete's vegetable patch up in Beccles might not have received enough to keep his marrows happy.
For the record, 9.4mm here in Hadleigh, South Suffolk.

32oC (90oF) this weekend looks possible. We’ll see - definitely a warm up coming. Just as August arrives. It’ll probably leave as quickly as it comes, but we’ll see if any more settled weather comes along after with moderated temperatures. My instinct says maybe

I can hear constant rumbling thunder to my SW. the radar doesn’t look impressive but the storm sounds it. it looks like it’s just west of west malling region.

Edit: and now the lightning has started with very long lengths of thunder. (17 seconds!) This could get interesting...

2 huge gunshot claps overhead with a rumble that lasted a good 10 seconds. But that's it. Not quite sure if I can count that as a storm as it was so short lived!

It's been a game of two halves today, with a wet miserable morning followed by a fairly decent albeit late partly sunny afternoon. #Love our weather.

Some models go for 36oC on Friday for west of London with temps anywhere from high 20’s near coast (where wind is a factor) to low 30’s Inland.

If anyone knows which way the wind will be Friday please advise. I can’t find any model or person who says the same.

If the wind is from the E we’re a lot cooler here (north Kent) but if it’s SE then we could be one of the hottest. So still unsure for my neck of the woods

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
