Here in South East London, seems the windiest yet. The big fir tree  is wildly shaking. I can hear howls and whistles, anyone know what time it will stop want to get some sleep!

Will it stop after the squall line that is evident on radar?

A huge section of roofing has collapsed in the middle of Slough High Street this evening, after strong winds battered Britain throughout the day.

I'm sitting in Chessington listening to a wind howling through the plastic roof of the college like I've never heard. So loud it's drowning out my son's jujitsu class at times. Narrower areas outside are really funneling some powerful gusts, with the lad asking 'Ummm, mum, it's safe isn't it?' For once the footballers on the astro turf have admitted defeat as torrential rain pulses through the air under the floodlights like a scene from a movie. I think the little woof will give the walk a miss tonight, might get blown away!

Yesterday was bad enough, worse tonight, but I desperately want 8 ft snow drifts

I lost part of my greenhouse yesterday and next doors shed was trashed a little while ago, by a nasty gust. It's just whistling up the terrace  No sleep 'til it calms down a bit..

I’m relieved to be back in Surbiton now After commuting on the train from Shepperton to Kingston just nipped in the pub for a pint before the bus to Chessington. I know it seems silly but I think I will stay on the bottom deck tonight.

BBC describing tonight as Storm Brendan hitting Slough.. hmm! Not exactly true is it.

"A large section of a roof was blown off a block of flats in Slough as Storm Brendan hit the town."

Emergency services are at the scene, but no-one is believed to be injured.

Bloody hell that was a big one!! Now sitting in the dark as it took the power out.

According to GFS (I had a peek an hour ago, looking at South East corner) it looks like it will be gusting up to 50-60mph til about 3am. Suspect we're not going to get much sleep tonight!

Not silly at all, it's a bit mad out there. A pint to steady the nerves - what an excellent idea;)

Pilots are definitelyearning their money tonight. Regular go around and fuel emergencies all over the place. I hope everyone returns safely this evening.

Below is that list of named Storms, a joint effort from the Met Office and Met Eireann:

https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/about-us/press-office/news/weather-and-climate/2019/storm-names-for-2019-20-announced

So, Ciara is next on the list. Thought we might have had Colleen, daughter of Brendan or even the Wife, Colette. But the Missus is stormy enough, in her own right!!  :shok: Like Brendan, she has some Irish blood. :help:

Regards,

Tom.   :hi:

Almost 60 mph gusts being reported through large parts of inland southeast at the moment. This is quite the storm.

Quite! Storm Brendan is way to the NW centred between Iceland and Scotland. This evening's gales in the SE related to open wave secondary low to the SE of parent Brendan low.

I suppose one could argue its part of the circulation of the big low to the NW, but looking at current gusts you can see swathe of gales in the SE is quite separate to the strong winds around Brendan low to the NW.

Two fence panels down in our garden, but as it's dark before and after I come home from work, not getting fixed until weekend!

It wasn't as bad as I was expecting on the seafront in Hastings this afternoon but the wind has really picked up this evening.

I can hear branches cracking on the trees nearby as the wind howls through them.

Went to see a friend in Maidenhead tonight and the drive back to Heathrow was pretty nasty, car buffeted by strong gusts and sheets of rain. Very mild feel
