An unsettled week coming up, but it's going to be the gusty wind on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday that will likely be the talking point rather than rainfall amounts. Today and tomorrow will see the wind picking up each afternoon and peaking in the evening. NMM forecasts:

I like the new animated, inter-active 'Global Jet Stream' charts available on Netweather Extra. It gives you the ability to zoom in/out and rotate the globe over the 10-day forecast period. Here's an example (not animated) for 18.00 this evening showing the UK battered by the Polar front jet stream and further south is the sub-tropical jet stream:

Well, tomorrow will be my first genuine wind event this year, as I missed the last one due to being on holiday.

Excitement building for a potential pattern change at the end of the month giving us a 24 hour northerly with plus 9 c temps, can't wait.

I thought the northerly had done a 'piff paff poof' and magically disappeared!?!...the excitement is now building for a coldish high pressure in a weeks time or so with the chance of a frost (give me strength).

That's even more tedious than a 24 minute northerly

Apparently, the entire global weather-pattern is indistinguishable from that of January 13th 2007. Wasn't it identical to that of 1947, only yesterday?

I sense a 1963 comparison soon, winter didn't really get going until May and all that

windy. A bit chilly-ish in said wind. Don't like wind.

Message ends.

looking through the NW london dump hole archives, it did once snow here but sleet was prominent in the 19th century, it even settled once.

According to the writings of the 1st century monk, funnily enough, named Monkfish (put your knickers on and make me a cup of tea fame), the Thames also used to freeze over.

O-yes-siree-bob.

Well all the wheelie bins on the street have blown over in a big gust. Thought there'd been an explosion at first!

Constant howling here and difficult to walk in the strongest gusts. No way is this "only" 25-30mph! Seems like newly built towers create a wind tunnel effect with SW winds.

And stronger winds on the way tommorrow - 60mph in London?! Probably end up with hurricane force winds around here.

Storm Bernard Manning (or whatever it's called, why do they even bother) has really kicked in and turned it into a really grotty evening.

Of course it was easier to freeze back then as the thames was one big toilet and the ahem.......stuff affected the free flow of the water.
