Working in Shepperton at the moment , People very worried now , but of panic buying on top of Xmas shopping , apparently many houses damaged and it’s still peeing down .

Shepperton was badly affected in the 2013 floods, not looking good currently with all the rain to come. Especially as insurers aren’t covering flood damage anymore. Definitely need a freeze! Or at least some high pressure.

Yeah it doesn’t look good , The height of the river Thames this morning shocked me at Walton on Thames . We need high pressure quick . I wonder if those dried up rivers are flowing again yet ?

Was it a tornado, or a land spout

A land spout is a type of tornado that isn't associated with a mesocyclone. It would be interesting to dig deeper into this and see whether this one was. Low topped supercells can occur at this time of year given enough instability and shear. Whats always frustrating with uk tornado's is that there's never any images of the cloud structure. The video that shows the tornado crossing the motorway, you see a small suction vortex crossing the lanes, but theirs probably a broader circulation above this.

Think any dried up rivers are a distant memory. Absolutely hammering it down at Heathrow at the moment.

‘Local’ PWS has had over 110mm this month exceptionally wet and I can firmly believe it, still it pours.

Horrible heavy rain again, thought it might have slipped south of London earlier, bit of wishful thinking there I guess. It would definitely have missed the SE if it had been snow though!

Going by the damage reports I have had and various other bits of video etc im pretty sure the tornado touched down within this area.. It sounds like it touched down more than once within this area and normal tornado behavior missed one street but the next was damaged.. Viewing damage I would put it at a very low end EF1 if there was a EF0.5 .. There is only one station near it being litthampton sailing club which unfortuntley is to far away to register any changes in wind speed..

I photographed a wedding in Harlow yesterday, on the way there many roads were half flooded... on the way back home many were fully flooded!  Took me twice as long as it should've to get home. That was not a fun drive home.
If only Google maps knew about flooded roads!

After a brief dry spell today and again Wednesday, looks like more deluges on the way. 79mm so far this month, should easily break the 100mm mark. Pretty impressive.

Enjoying a Christmas Break in North Cornwall this week. A visit to Tintagel Castle today was fantastic. A whole host of weather.... from torrential rain to beautiful sunshine... with everything in between. A lovely respite from endless rain and grey skies

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
