Well the smart money would have to say we won't get snow as early as last year! Only 1 day left to play!

Lovely white frost here too. Got down to -1C. The cold air really enhancing the contrails (vapour trails) from the high-level aircraft this morning. Looks busy up there!

Early on in the morning, there was a light to moderate frost.  There was lovely sunshine but sadly it did not last long.  There was no sign of any early morning fog.  Last night, I had a rare treat of seeing a clear night's sky showing a good number of stars and planets.  In Thurrock there is a horrible brown/purple haze (looks like clouds) which always appears due to pollution. The temperature at 11:32 am is 6.1°C and the humidity is at 76%.  The barometric pressure is steadily rising and is at 1014.6.

Lovely crisp frosty day. Here’s one of my poems that feels fitting for today:

Seasons

Summer fades upon us all,

Leaves turn brown, it's soon the Fall,

The leaves are changing, and for that reason,

This is why we love the Seasons.

The Autumn colours shine so bold,

And foggy days lead to the cold,

With every day we lose the leaves,

And feel the chill in every breeze.

Cold days lead to frosty paths,

Warm houses with hotter baths,

Runny noses, coughs and sneezes,

All brought on by winter's breezes.

Fireplaces, rosy faces,

snow is falling in all places,

roads are grid locked, cars are sliding,

The animals outside are hiding.

But soon enough the bulbs appear,

The snow long gone and warmth is here,

Spring flowers begin to bloom,

The hazy sunlight fills the room.

And before not long the summer's back,

The sweltering heat, the pavements crack,

Deep blue skies and lazy days,

The cold of winter just a daze.

So if you miss that summer haze,

Where water fights are all the craze,

Just wait a while and for that reason,

This is why we love the Seasons.

Thank you for sharing such beautiful poetry, you are very creative and very talented poet.

High pressure delivered some lovely views around the region this morning after frosty foggy night, good to see the pics and thanks for sharing

Screenshot_2019-11-19-18-52-36.thumb.jpeg.6aa10d7e15a8ba70398da988847c9d66.jpeg Last night dipped down to -4.9°C  at    1:21

Think it was the foggy moments that caused the varying temp until 8am when graph shows a rapid increase, however that meant it reached the dizzy height of 3.7°C   at  15:07

Currently we are dropping sub-zero again and are back to

Temperature
-0.5°C

Humidity
96%

Dewpoint
-1.1°C

Wind
NNE

Barometer
1014.4 hPa & Steady

Not looking forward to the return of mild crud!

Got down to -0.7C this morning there was no fog here but as headed west of capital along M4 quite heavy fog a very wintry look shame it’s not lasting.

Lowest for us was -2.9C - the lowest temperature since 3 February this year.

In comparison, this evening we are currently at 9.3C, at nearly 22.00.

Very calm today. Nice weather for a spot of gardening, only 7C. at the moment feels fairly mild. Its been nice having this spell of drier weather. Time to put another log on the fire and pour a glass

Odd topic, I know, but I must ask: Is it just me, or is the late winter of 1956 criminally underrated...? Right at the beginning of February, it looks like we may have just squeezed the -20c Isotherm in across our area, given how low-res the NCEP re-analysis charts are. For perspective, I don’t even think we managed that incredible feat during the January 1987 cold spell.

I expect the maxima during this time (1st Feb-5th Feb) would have been around -6-8c widely, given VERY deep snow cover from NE/ENE winds. The snow streamer convection must have been immense!

As well as this particular cold spell, Mid February was also very cold and snowy, given the blocked pattern waxed and waned, but generally kept its grip. We then had yet another cold period towards the end of February, with uppers widely between -12-15c. This renewed surge of cold was predominantly low pressure themed, with biting N/NE winds. Again, I know this is out of the blue, but I thought it was worth mentioning, and may further whet our growing appetite for cold and snowy weather. I have included some charts, too. Proof that disconnect delivers... great contrast during that February and a really unusual alignment of HP anomalies vs a bullseye Polar Vortex, nice rewind there!image.thumb.png.cb4a6ce0fde79cd48b1a90758569b23d.pngimage.thumb.png.7f111a37f4bc4fc172289a22703bebdb.png

Can’t believe we have now had 4 dry days on the trott now after a very wet autumn and tomorrow should also be dry.been another chilly one though maxing at 8 degrees again here.20 days into November and I think only one day has reached over 10 degrees so on course to be one of the coldest November’s for maybe a decade I would think. And excitement seems to be building on Mod thread of a possible cold spell starting in last few days of this month

am hoping for a few milder days as my heating costs are an awful lot higher this month than I was hoping for

Yes indeed. Has been quite dry recently. Still need a few months of well above average rainfall to make up the defecit.

Chilly morning in South London.

What a disgusting winter chart although would be sunny and foggy mornings I assume.. Look how far south the winds are sourced somewhere in Africa!!

Glad it's the last frame of the GFS and deep deep FI

Yes, disgustingly mild for the time of year if it came off, but I'd take foggy mornings and sunny afternoons over just leaden skies / mild drizzle. Not for too long though...

At least it would be dry.

An Atlantic dominated, barrelling low pressure systems with endless cold rain is even more disgusting.
