I can't believe how windy it is tonight and hardly anyone has mentioned it ?!

It isn’t particularly windy here, but we have <moderate-moderate rain falling steadily.

It’s unlikely to be strictly sleet as such; I believe the ‘sleet’ colour can also be shown in place of graupel, ice pellets, hail, and even just cold rain in some circumstances (despite the fact that a separate colour exists for hail as well). It’s just how the radar chooses to compute what is falling, and can be influenced by factors such as elevation ASL, dew point, etc.

I know that that's why I questioned it Given the air mass sleet wouldn't of been a suprise and if that's the case then they should tweak the precipitation type to be more accurate. Pointless having a colour for hail that is never shown it's shown as rain but no big deal haha Anyway moving on.. Cold here with heavy rain looks like we are in for a lot more looking at the radar mabye some wintriness on high ground too.

The radar data we see can't actually detect precipitation type, they use hi-res NMM data along with some ground observations to try and give a rough idea of what might be falling. At a localised level it's extremely difficult to ascertain exactly what type it may be.

The Met Office were doing upgrades to all of their radar sites a while back. They should be able to detect all precip types in real time. I don't know if any of that is publicly available  though.

Nice radar image 06.25. Shame about the weather.

Windy and wet, but didn't feel overly cold. Some surface water on the grass now and puddles. Just over the road from us (we are on a slight slope, but it's still a fair way away) is the River Ouse so i expect the land around there is flooding a bit now.

Oh, that’s pretty neat! Thank you for explaining.

Slight chance, very slight granted but a chance nonetheless we could see our first falling flakes this evening.

I am enjoying this year!

Can confirm I saw SLEET in amongst the heavy rain! Big fat icy splats on the windscreen.

Felt really cold at work (outside!) Car read 4c at 11.45.

Taken by me today. Vague convective structure beneath the stable mid level cloud!

Quite a nice day here, after the deluge overnight. Saw some hefty looking shower clouds in the distance later in the day but didn’t affect this area.

Fascinating how the weather influences all aspects of affluent Western society. Watching ‘Inside the Supermarket’ about Sainsbury’s, the emphasis put on the weather for Easter Sales is astonishing, apparently a below average temp. indicates maxing out on New Zealand lamb sales, a heat wave means bbq’s and other lighter options... who knew!!!

Stunning cloud scapes today, as @LightningLover photos show. Here is a pic from Uxbridge this afternoon although it doesn't capture what was visible on the drive back. Earlier this week saw crystal clear skies above a raw wind across Nonsuch Park.

Another pretty grim down down on the SE coast - had another 27mm of rain since midnight with a high of 6c.

Interestingly, in a deluge as I left home this morning, there were a few sleety splats in with the rain on the windscreen! It was about 4c at the time but I guess the heavy rain dragged the colder air down with it briefly.

Got stuck in that particular area of 20mm+ rain earlier today.

Went very dark around 3 & absolutely chucked it down most of the day.

Horrendous roads and a shop nearby having quite a bad leak in it.

Not a nice day, hoping for better day tomorrow anyway.

Can't even squeeze some rain out here in the relative dust bowl just to make it interesting (see rainfall anomaly charts for Oct and the drier patch in amongst the blues), just what I dread - the endless grey lid, not too cold, not too warm, just nothingness, weather free & totally dire.  Even the sun lamp is making no impact.  ☁️

Just back from a long dog walk.

Can’t  believe how wet and bogged the ground is here. Well I can actually with the relentless rain just didn’t realise the severity of it.
Need a very long dry spell to balance things out now, but with 4 more winter months of this, it’s only going to get worse.

Fairly dark and damp again here in Eastdene spots of drizzly rain and an early sunset. Not too cold at the moment.
