This morning Dorian reached 954mb and 117it flight winds which was a clear car 3 and back to being a Major.

however since then dry air has opened the eye up and I can only really see him declining.

The NHC has adjusted Dorian's track closer to the coastline. He is still moving slowly north but expected to pick up a northeasterly track today. How soon this happen will determine how close it gets to the mainland.

Looking at the live stream there appears to be a LOT of lightning as the storms interact with the drier air.

It’s all kicking off at the moment and as @karyo mentioned above - serious situation with regards to the coast of South and North Carolina.

@fujita5 Indeed! Watching that just now - it’s pretty much lighting up every 5 seconds.

Big tornado threat also currently/today. Time for a browse of nearby webcams!

Useful live webcam. It's from Carolina Beach Fishing Pier, just south of Wilmington. http://surfchex.com/cams/carolina-beach-web-cam/

Seems to be down, network error.  Maybe too many NW members hammering it?

Looks like it is going into the eye - max gust on this side of the eye 75.8 knots. Is it me or do actual recorded windspeeds in these hurricanes never quite match the NHC suggested windspeeds?

Incredible picture from Jim Edds inside the eye of Dorian on September 2nd.

The eye is going to pass right over the webcam below!

Don’t think this flag is going to hold on for much longer!

Edit: Live camera has gone offline! Currently showing highlights!

Dorian is also just 35 miles from land!

Things could get a bit hairy on Bald Head Island.

I came across this footage from watching the Channel 4 News tonight. Hats off to them for giving it a lot more air time than other news stations. No pun intended. Truly terrifying.

Dorian due to hit Halifax, Nova Scotia this evening and then track up through Cape Breton Island before heading off towards Newfoundland.

I was in Halifax a couple of weeks ago for my brother's wedding (great place by the way, incredibly friendly people and well worth a visit). We drove up to Cape Breton island following the track that the hurricane is forecast to take - What amazed me at the time is the number of trees - hours upon hours on the highway with nothing but trees- I knew there'd be a lot of trees - but wow! I imagine these will take quite a battering tonight along with some of the more vulnerable communities along the east coast.
