Seems unusually early Kazan isn't particularly far north. About the same latitude as Moscow. 55 degrees.

Isn’t it meant to snow in Alberta, Canada this weekend ? Another early start ? ❄️❄️❄️

The Canadian guy here informs us that it snow more or less all year in Alberta and October is certainly not that unusual.

Montana is forecast record levels for October though.

But it’s only September still this weekend.

Those worried about lack of early cold pooling to our NE and Russia need not worry this year......interesting autumn coming methinks

Significant snow gains in north east Canada and far east of Russia.  Sea Ice gains above Alaska as well.

The sea ice appears to have bottomed out slightly earlier than average this year!

We could have done with a bigger melt season, i was hoping we would beat 2010 but in the end all those forecasts in the climate thread were well bust, not even close to the record.

It was the 2nd lowest on record and below 2010

Sorry i meant 2012, have no idea why i put 2010 as had no idea what 2010's was like anyway, - the reason is we had one of the winters most  leathered with Easterlies since about 95-96, sure there is more science to it that just how big the melt is though admittedly but there was some analogues built by a climate scientist built in the climate thread and does show a big melt season does increase the chances of blocking - nowhere near a uniform science but just another one of the 5 percenters that load the dice in our favour.

No worries @feb1991blizzard well the snow cover is doing well and we are already seeing / have seen some blocking to the north / north west, hopefully we end up with a snow filled winter (it won't take much to beat last year's terrible effort)

Wasn’t last year’s snowfall record breaking in Calgary for a single day ?

More snow on the way for the High Tatras next week. Looks like we'll avoid last autumn's warm dry horror. Nice and damp here in Warsaw too, much needed to replenish the water levels.

There is a buzz of excitement as we see early snow in locations across the northern hemisphere. Ski resorts in most places had a bumper year last as well.  My point is this will be an opportunity to really see how much of an impact a prolonged spell of low Solar really can have and what that means going forward.  Cycle 24 was very weak and cycle 25 is predicted to be the same or even weaker.

When do the Scottish Highlands usually get their first sustained snow?
