How usual it is to see snow at such levels in Italy at this time of year.. quite unusual I would expect..

It also happened in September 2017. I was in the Pyrenees then and there was fresh snow to just over 2000 metres. The same system then gave snow to the Alps.

It looks good but it doesn't take much for this early snow to melt though.

Some agreement from both ECM EPS and GEFS that the snow cover advance in the northern hemisphere will get off to a good start over the next 2 weeks:

"EC Monthly for the last week of September: The two lows over Siberia, and the low over North America combine to produce large-scale snowfall over those regions."

"The snow cover advance season is off to a fast start and this trend will likely continue as high pressure centered near the North Pole will force lower pressure over the northern continents with more snow predicted for Siberia, Alaska, Canada and even possibly the Northern US."

Here in Poland we've had the first snow of the season in the high Tatra mountains.

I was expecting some snow on our side of Tatras but very little precipitation came down to Slovakia

Not exactly snow related but the first Autumn cold front passed through the south eastern US mid-week too. Minima on Wednesday night fell to single digits. No doubt they'll roast until November though mostly.
