Missed most of the heavy rain but still over 100mm for the month. Storm passed through the north of Sheffield and Rotherham looking at the radar late this afternoon. So no storms at this station today.

Yes caught a few decent views of thundery showers but no lightning seen/thunder heard despite them not being too far away from my NE Sheffield location.

Despite another wet day I do appreciate we've missed much of the truly torrential downpours this week, thankfully.

As i mentioned above,i had a big crack of thunder earlier,it must of come from the edge of the storm, there was some good cloudscapes today and here are some of the pics of the storm, sorry for the telephone lines

this was developing behind it as a single cell and then merged with the front storm(five minute interval)

Day 2 Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Thu 01 Aug 2019 - 05:59 UTC Fri 02 Aug 2019

ISSUED 19:52 UTC Wed 31 Jul 2019

ISSUED BY: Dan

Our old friend, the vertically-stacked low, will linger over the North Sea during Thursday, with a general northwesterly flow across the British Isles. Upper ridging will gradually build from the southwest, but not sufficiently enough to suppress another day of deep convection. In response to diurnal heating, 300-600 J/kg CAPE should be available by the afternoon hours, which combined with low-level convergence and orographic forcing could lead to the development of scattered showers and a few thunderstorms.

Winds will be rather weak in the low and mid-levels, so organisation of cells is unlikely, but stronger flow aloft near the anvil level may help with venting. In general though, storms will be weaker (in terms of lightning activity) than compared with the previous couple of days, but any additional rainfall over already saturated ground poses a risk of local flooding. The strongest cells may produce some small hail, while the odd funnel cloud is possible as low-level vorticity gets stretched by the updraft of showers. Showers/storms will gradually decay during the evening hours as daytime heating subsides.

I live in the village although luckily up on the hill so we're not directly affected here. But it's been hectic with helicopters, sirens, people scrambling about whilst engineers are determining just how much of the dam has been breached. I was walking over the footpath only yesterday watching the park flooding and the overflow, and in all the 3-decades of living here i've never seen as much water trying to escape all at once.

Yep, the town has a lot of folks living down near to the river and it's those people who are being strongly advised to leave and shelter at Chapel-en-le-Frith school until a better risk assessment of the dam's integrity is made. Almost every road in/out has been closed and Police aren't letting anyone who leaves the village to go back in. Once you're out, you're out.

Ok, just seen what looks to be really quite strong convection going on the other side of the Clwydian Range at the moment!

Really wasn’t expecting to see this! Not complaining mind.

Hope you and the all in Whaley stay safe and that all the disruption will be resolved as quickly as possible.

After the big thunderstorms yesterday...today was more of a starter than a main course!

Great stuff again though.
