A grim few days of "unseasonably warm weather" to get through.

Stay strong everyone, cooler air will follow.......

Nothing grim about it - the cooler air can wait until November when it’s actually useful.

Pleasant day today, slightly below room temperature outside, a crisp, sunny beautiful fall day. The kind of day where you can go out and exercise because it's cool enough with fair, permitting conditions, and the sun makes everything seem so bright, colourful and alive.

A warm start to October looks possible though thankfully.

Possible but unlikely. Thankfully.

Just curious - what have you found grim about the last few days?

Not unlikely at all, probably the safest bet in our increasingly warming climate. October has often been lovely and warm in recent years and long may it continue.

Cool misty mornings, pleasantly warm sunny afternoons. Not sure how anyone could describe it as grim. This is exactly what September should be like. Probably the best weather for stunning autumn foliage too.

Crystal clear blue skies, pleasantly warm afternoons and cool nights in the SE. Perfect weather to usher us into autumn. Grim?

To be honest the trend showing at the moment is cooling,in my view the chances of October being warm are remote to say the least.

Whilst I normally love warm sunny weather, I do think it feels a little weird this late in September. Especially when you look at how warm it is forecast to be tomorrow which is much more of what you'd expect during mid summer.
Fortunately, after tomorrow autumn is going to finally begin getting underway.

It's been about 20 degrees here - that's slightly milder than average for the time of year. With a mild airmass and clear conditions this seems completely normal and not close to weird, to me anyway. 29 degrees in October like in 2011 and that would be a bit weird.

It's funny how everybody is commenting about how warm it is. The month-to-date anomalies all over the UK are negative v 1981-2010 with most of central England running at -1 or lower. For the last 7 days, it's very much the same apart from a thin warm strip along the south coast. So it's been cold actually..

(Apologies if these images scroll on with time and become irrelevant for later readers - and note the left thumbnail is incorrect for some reason but does click through to the correct all blue UK month-to-date image for the time being.)

Shame we cannot have a warm climate all year round don't get me wrong I would love a proper good snow event but I am getting fed up of a 1cm slush fest every year.

Yeah, last year I don't think we even had 1cm of lying snow here. In most of low land England winter is a boring wait for a disappointing outcome most years. Rather it just be warm and sunny.

Aye, but as we all know proper snow events getting less every year, especially the further south and lower down you go, Aye certainly wouldn't mind a dry warm winter, as even that's more likely than proper cold,

the way I look at it too, cold setups/northerlies can stay away until Dec here, (Nov north), for now, bring on the southerlies

Well, yes - that happens every year. It’s what we call ‘changing seasons’.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks the current weather is ‘grim’ clearly needs to get out of the house a bit more often.

Other than being devoid of interest, this week’s weather has been (bar monday) incredible. It’s been as unreal as that warm week in February for the clarity of skies. I keep having to remind myself it’s September!

Its been great not needing to worry about coats and umbrellas and the countryside is starting to develop the lovely autumnal mellowness.

October will no doubt start warm as it often does. Even the colder Octobers like 2010, 2008 and 2003 had warm periods earlier on.

Having been out for a short 20 mile bike ride, it was pretty much perfect. Warm but not too hot, and with a strong-ish south easterly breeze. The longer we have to wait for the seemingly endless mild, grey mush the better - seeing as we're unlikely to get a long cold, dry winter, which also can be pleasant cycling weather.
