What a great start to the event! Can’t ask for much more than this in the UK.

Just been watching some very distant flashes off to my north - nothing showing on lightning maps..  bizarre!

That will be what's just to the east of York.

Guy anyone know how to get the circle things to show more longer on here? They appear to have stopped https://www.lightningmaps.org/#m=oss;t=3;s=0;o=0;b=0.00;ts=0;y=50.9394;x=-1.4632;z=10;d=2;dl=2;dc=0;

Pretty awesome here in Portsmouth. I'm actually scared to go out in the garden in case I get struck! Though thunder is not particularly loud - perhaps storms elevated.

Oh here comes the rain, yes, it's heavy!

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

    Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

    Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

    The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

    We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
