Can see the distant flashes of the storms over by Cherbourg - that lightning is about 100km away.

Keep an eye on the sky high above them, with lightning that intense there are bound to be some sprites going up

is it doing the usual lightning on the eastern flank thing that sometimes the main event misses the southeast if its too far east?

I’d just highlight that it’s not uncommon with this elevated stuff for strikes not to show on blitzortung all of the time.

Not really - a number of different models have shown developments across France heading towards the SE area - BUT all models have agreed that they will stay discrete and small in scale before petering our eventually.

If that is indeed the nose of the high instability I’d expect initiation across the SW in the next hour or so, if not sooner. I note there is activity developing over Wales but not electrified last time I looked (yet).

The storm heading for the south east is now 60 strikes per minute and growing in size by the minute! Hardly descrete  or small scale!?

Indeed!! Couldn’t agree more mate - if they keep growing upscale it will definitely rebut (I think) every model I’ve seen. As I say however the latest Euro4 is the only one I’ve seen that wants to bring meaningful precip towards the SE.

The lot east off Cherbourg will now likely continue to expand and possibly become an MCS IMO and rob the energy from here. Given this until 11pm then hitting the sack......

Gawd sake, thought I saw lightning, but it was from the TV - bloody thunderstorm  on X-Men 2.

Tis far to early for me to get jumpy.
