The SW will be a bust, London and the South East will light up tonight, seen it before and not surprised!!

Would be nice to have some actual evidence to back that up, other than 'it's happened before'. This is a different setup for a start.

Why do folk think they can call a whole night based on a few isolated cells firing up? Patience and respect/knowledge of the setup go a long way!

It was a decent day in Florida today. Saw some bolts and heard some loud rumbles of thunder about an hour ago.

What are these meteorological features you speak of?

I don’t know if the lightning is legit or not, but there are clouds moving in along the south near there.

Sorry - I meant there are no showers in the vicinity. But yes - mid to low cloud coming north here.

Those cherbourg cells are tiny, and ties in with perhaps a few isolated storms towards the south east othernight. The main event is where that precipitation pushing into the sothwest, when that lights up it will be on a much bigger scale than what the south east may get

Just set up camp as Mudeford quay, and must say that this evening has a very similar feel to the 3rd of July 2015!

That event is etched into my memory, and goes down as my best storm experience ever!

 Good luck everyone

I’m not even a westerner but there’s a real ‘them and us’ feel to proceedings tonight

Errr not that I can see I wouldn’t even call it a shelter, I’d get soaked. I’d be more then happy if I can just see the storm then be in it - for photography purposes.

Looks like you might get the first storms

This is probably true!

Popcorn thunderstorms were forecast to brush past London and the SE, so it could be them forming.

What are you looking at? Rain radar has nothing in the area. The wind has most definitely picked up.

Also

The fact that the cell leaving the French coast is still active, bodes well for us central southerners and locations to the east of the Isle of Wight
