That's how the clouds looked here, got a clear view as the cluster moved off to the east. Looked like a lot of low scud associated with it.

Another view of it.

Well, I'm going to head off to bed now.

I'm planning on setting some alarms. Perhaps one at 2am and another at 4am.

I'm won't be sure when the UK next will see some widespread thunderstorm activity, but I'm off to Florida tomorrow for 18 days so there's a high risk of seeing a storm every day!

I'm also planning on posting the storms I get in Florida either here or on the North American thread.

Hope some people who haven't seen a storm in ages get one tonight.

Night all.

That would be ace - I would defo tune in each night - please post some photos if you can too

Maybe best to start a specific thread so it’s easy to spot new posts. Have a great time!

I’m trying to keep the enthusiasm high this end

again I’m torn to either stay put or drive further east.

New camera in play and eager to test it out.

radar shows we have heavy rain, but nothing at the moment ?‍♀️

Take the "e" out of noteworthy!

it's not even going to be a Kent clipper by that trajectory, but it is early days yet so lets see what happens.

I think 12 to 2am is gonna be the sweet spot for the first round of electrical stuff.

Gonna be a messy night (convectively speaking) i reckon - but I’m sure there will be some good pulses of electrical activity embedded over the period of the next 12 hours

I believe the cells are supposed to be initiating in our portion of the channel, aided by a push of warm moist air; Lightning frequency, however, remains uncertain. Hoping it will be at least somewhat prolific!

I don't see a great deal happening to be honest.  Some elevated lighting perhaps, but in the far Southeast 2am onwards.

Yes - they are having a great evening/night over there!

I have told my girlfriend I am sleeping in the spare room tonight - got the windows open and the blind is up just incase.

Hopefully one of us gets lucky - early hours of the morning starting to look interesting!

Yeah, probably not gonna be anything dramatic tonight but no doubt there's some elevated lightning in there... Just as I was about to finish this sentence...

18 days in Florida at the height of the storm season, sounds like the perfect trip for a storm enthusiast. Best of luck getting some good storms over there

If it all turns out rubbish for us in the UK we can all look up the live streams/news channels for this...

Haha

I may sleep in the kids playhouse and hope to be woken up by thunder. If nothing happens at least it is keeping us interested as the potential is there. It certainly beats the usual boring non eventful weather.

I love how enthusiastic everyone is over what is essentially a marginal event

Guess it’s because it’s Friday? Either way, I’m getting the feeling this could go better than expected. Not likely we’ll see another July 18th for at least a few more weeks but some nice fireworks will do perfectly

Would love to have a storm event like the South got end of May about 2 years ago, I remember watching the radar of a storm that wasn't in the forecast and there was 500 strikes a minute. Not sure if anyone here remembers that?
