Shows 1 thunder day here. That’ll be the one distant rumble I heard earlier on this year then.

@staplehurst Very interesting, thank you for that. I think Belper is in the white area just north of the dark yellow over Derby .

Take a look at the amount of thunder days just over the other side of the Channel compared to this side. That 50 miles makes all the difference.

Hopefully storm activity will pick up in July. I cannot deny this year has been pretty poor so far and i have had to travel further than ever to see a storm.

Speaking of which, i am off to Pula in Croatia on Sunday and there is a risk of a storm early next week according to the forecasts I have seen. So I may get another fix whilst I'm there

May car hire be in the pipeline?

Day 2 Convective Outlook

VALID 06:00 UTC Fri 05 Jul 2019 - 05:59 UTC Sat 06 Jul 2019

ISSUED 20:47 UTC Thu 04 Jul 2019

ISSUED BY: Dan

As an upper low traverses Shetland late on Friday into Friday night, steepening mid-level lapse rates and marginal instability may be sufficient for some deeper convection and isolated lightning, as an area of showery rain close to the wrap-around occlusion clears to the east.

A few elevated showers may also drift up from the south close to the Channel Islands during the early hours of Saturday.

Unfortunately not. I don't own a credit card which makes hiring a car almost impossible. The storms would have to come to me.

It’s funny how this year is slightly above average here and it’s just the rest of the country has dropped to my level.

Do you have a debit card?

Yes, but most companies won't accept them. If you are aware of any that do then please pm me as I don't want to take this thread off topic, but would be interested to know.

Saw this earlier further inland near haslemere. Sign of a surprise mid layer storm later?

No. They can develop under many types of other clouds - it's just cold air sinking within warm air that is rising.

Just has the fee of storms round these parts.

if we had the cape we had the other day it would be ok. Also if he had the humidity we had the other day it would be ok. Also if we had the wind shear we had the other day, it would be ok.

I could go on?

Meteo Group (using ECM I believe) picking up on something Thundery at the end of the week? ECM raw output agrees

Late Thurs into Fri looks the best bet for most. Good early call from ECM as per above post yesterday

Sorry to moan, but this year just is not delivering. It’s been absolutely dire. Not a single half decent storm here yet, just a few mediocre rumbles, and I mean literally 2 or 3. This is coming from the South Lincs storm capital by the way, so it really is quite something.

I’ve got to say it, even 2011 is below this year for sheer boringness. I hope I would never have to be saying that! I hope we see a big change, a nice day in the centre of a sunny low pressure system with popcorn storms would even give me great gratification right now. Plumes have just been non existent this year, except for that Kent clipper let down last month.

I'm currently in Surrey, and it seems like a cell has suddenly developed over me. So far it has only brought a little bit of rain. I doubt it will bring anything major, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

Metoffice have put out some very early thunderstorm warnings for the usual hot spots nowadays!

I am in the warning so bring on Thursday - buzzing already!

Hopefully just as good as the recent bout we had!

This rain currently was not forecast.

Thursday is a westerly flow so anywhere under 15 miles from a western coast can forget it.
