Best storms we've seen in N Ireland for quite a while.

Looking good! Let's hope that this is a precursor to them gradually transferring east as the day goes on.

Ah I hope this continues. Like I say not getting hopes up as either way it's been a pure lush day up here but the icing on the cake would be followed by a massive bang ⛈️

Update from Dan at convective weather. Seems he's issued a moderate now although confidence isn't high.

Wish I was in the NE today as today feels like that classic day of a cold front hitting humid air which results in big storms. I remember June 28th 2012 and it was not a particularly sunny day nor is it as warm now and we know what happened then for sure!

Yep I was stuck at work in Benwell in the west end with prolific lightning that burned 2 houses down on the estate I was on. Elswick cemetery wall collapsed with the flood water it was total chaos.

All I got from that day was distant thunder and amazing cloudscapes, storms just fell apart as they approached the coast.

Good luck to those in the north today! I have a quick question. Why does it seem like most thunderstorms in the UK are elevated lately? Ive seen it mentioned in all of the recent outbreaks, surface based stones never seem to come to fruition when they are forecast.

Skew-T profile looks loaded for 55ºN -1.5ºW (Wallsend), even surface CAPE present here.1024003168_ScreenShot2019-06-29at14_01_03.thumb.png.f5cf02605326990f5b7630b534a70508.png

Silly question but does this cover a larger area than Wallsend? Not sure how these work never got me head around them.

So I live in stockton on tees was up and about at 0600 as I had work cloudy and quite cool, sun is now out and the heat and humidity are unbearable..... For once I am glad I am at work even cigarette breaks aren't enjoyable because its too hot..... This bad boy goes pop later I think we might be in for a good one.

. Will be small variations but the profile pretty much covers most of upper atmosphere conditions in the NE area. This is a forecast from the 06 sounding and not actual conditions though. When the 12z soundings are available we should have a clearer picture on developments.
