My sister said she saw lightning walking back here; I missed it!

It was a strange night. last night as there was thunder but no lightning.  I heard a crackle but did not see any lightning flashes.  I got up excited took some photographs of the rain storm but managed to delete the images from the camera instead of downloading them.

Here is the aftermath of the rain/thunder storm.  The rain has made quite an impression on the garden fence.  Today's cloud cover.

Torrential rain and the loudest thunder clap I’ve ever heard!

This rains reminds me of when we’ve been on holiday in Turkey and they have a sudden downpour!

Had the odd flash and rumble but thst was it.

I presume the long rumbles are because it was more elevated?

More rain with a few claps of rumbling thunder but no lightning.

Best thunder clap of the night here in Gravesend. Probably more rainfall thunder and lightning in the last 10 hours than the last 2 "storm events" put together in this part of the region, yet ironically no Met Office warning!

An interesting summer of ups and downs- hard to imagine this location is forecast to be 35c midweek

Woken in the night twice, first of all by heavy rain at around 2am and then again at 3ish when more torrential rain came through, that time with lots of lightning and thunder. Looking at my weather station 36mm of rain overnight!

Thundering nr Halesworth, no rain yet. Bright and sunny out, assume it’s to the SE of us as large clouds building out that way.

There was another heavy downpour of rain approximately 1pm along with more thunder and a very weak bolt of lightning.

SO today begins the 4 or 5 days of excitement and dread which includes 2 days of extreme dread or pleasure, depending on which ever your preference is.

Whilst understanding peoples love of extremes please be aware of the heat for some people, its as bad as the extreme cold many like on here, only cold is easier to get away from.

Summer should be 20 to 24c sunny skies, cool breeze and warm eves, why does it seem we just cant get that these days for more than a day or two.
Oh and you must add in days like yesterday with some pretty powerful showers and storms, cant remember a day like that for some time.

Looks like we are in for a scorcher this week certainly up to Wednesday, who knows what will happen Thursday and Friday my fingers are crossed for record breaking temps but could go either way breakdown

Talk of 100f in the southeast, but it was in the MOD thread, so as good as a Daily Express headline.....or are they on to something???

It’s probably an outside bet at the moment. Would need a few things to come together.

Surely the met office will issue a heat warning for London and south east, we could be looking at 5 days of temps above 28 degrees! And 5 days of night temps around 20 with humidity!

Perhaps they will if they are more certain than not it might occur.

I am sure they are only waiting fo the Mail and Express headlines before they commit.
