I'm pretty certain that storm has straight line winds or possibly a microburst.. The wind that just came through here was th highest all day probs touching 70mph possible more.. That was crazy..

WHAT is going on out there? That's a storm and a half coming through to put it mildly, such heavy rain and wind, french windows rattling away and the rain appears to be falling sideways! My sister in Reading tells me they have have had an enormous lightning strike just off the A4.

Hi sj,

with a rumble of thunder. Worried about my beloved Cheltenham Festival, they've had a covering of snow on the Racecourse today. Plus don't like the look of forecast very strong winds, for Tues/Weds. Very similar weather caused the abandonment of the 2nd day, in March 2008. The course stayed in Gloucestershire  but Marquees nearly ended up in Oxfordshire/Wiltshire!!

Regards,

Tom. :hi:

This morning the QE2 bridge (Thurrock crossing) was closed in both directions and around the early afternoon it was re-opened.  Because of the closure of the bridge there were long tailbacks and traffic jams that took hours to clear.  Then there is talk of building another bridge which won't help if there is an accident on the bridge or when there are strong gales.

Some sleet and snow echoes showing on the radar on the hills above Hastings. Looks far too light to be of anything though.

What a great and interesting day for weather, had some mighty fierce gusts this morning then some sunshine followed with rain showers rattling through on the winds. Then we had a surprise snowfall at 6pm as the temperature dropped from 6c down to 0.8c with dewpoint just scraping below zero at -0.8c

Couple of gritter lorries whizzed past not long after that but temp and dewpoints have climbed again to 2.2c and 0.0c

Looks like a lively week ahead! Oooh and another Gritter just gone past as I type.
