As you can see from the amount of seaweed on this beach cam.....

https://www.bognorregisbeach.co.uk/live

......it was a stormy high tide.

Max wind speed here now F8 gusting F9 with it reaching F9 gusting F10 in the early hours. Happy to report my pear tree is not damaged apart from unripe fruit strewn across the lawn. Still plenty left though and it needed thinning out for the rest to grow bigger.

This is the longest period of sustained gale force winds I have seen for a long time so this is obviously a huge weather system.

Mild but very noisy night, had to get up at 5 to close the window as wind/trees thrashing had become so loud I couldn’t sleep. MetO has gusts of 43 in my location but I can’t stand still in my garden so I think they are higher. Weather station isn’t working - what timing!   Fearful for three of my big trees, have never seen them battered this violently in full leave - and the wind hasn’t peaked yet.

It must be blowing a gale here in Surrey debris everywhere over peoples drives and gardens - very unusual to have these sustained conditions in August round these parts ...??

I agree, seldom do you see orange areas for wind gusts over such a huge area. More usual round coasts.

Sorry for the extra images but I am not good at attaching images so must have done something wrong. The image is from Ventusky by the way.

Becoming increasingly gusty now in Suffolk. Not much in the way of showers and pretty overcast and warm but the wind sure is strong and likely to remain so for the next 4 or 5 hours. Enjoy your Saturday but hold onto your hats!

It was just a windy here as it was yesterday.  The temperature at 11:51 is 19.2°C and the humidity is 70%.  The barometer pressure is rising at 1004.4.  I do not know what the wind speed is, as I do not have a wind gauge.   Please can you tell me where I can get an accurate wind gauge, thank you.

Off to set a tent up in a field, this should be fun

Haha, good luck with that! I remember people in caravans on a Scottish camp site standing at their windows laughing as my brother and I attempted to put up a tent in a gale. Got it up eventually but had a very bent tent pole afterwards.

hhhmmmm...windy yes, life threatening? no. Yes debris about but you more or less expect that in summer, no branches or boughs down around me and we have some big maple trees and nothing down in the near by park. If I had to guess I'd say the wind is generally fresh to strong.

Very blustery here - my Tithonia rotundifolia are at risk of being damaged.  Any idea why we haven't had all that much rain?

Sorry about your sunflowers. ;) I think you didn't get much rain because it was mainly heavy showers in bands and if they missed you then you went dry.

Not long back home in Prague where I’ll be for 3 days. Absolutely tipping it down here which is needed, no nasty howling winds and feeling quite warm at 23C. Take off from Heathrow earlier was slightly gut wrenching, to put it mildly!

Gusting between 50mph and 60mph here on the Sussex coast.

Notable for August of course!,high seas and broken branches locally.

Warm though at 21c in sunny spells.

Surrey is definitely in the firing line today many branches down around Esher Common and flying debris - very unusual and potentially impactful weather here for August !!

Still blowing a hoolie here.

Replying to @SouthernRailUK @NetworkRailSE

#SNUpdates - Two trees are blocking the line between Ford and Barnham.

Chainsaw teams are en-route to get these cleared as quickly as possible.

Amazing that it is still gale force 8 gusting F9. This gale has now been blowing here for 24 hours so no wonder the trees are beginning to fall.

Windier this afternoon than this morning here with sustained winds around 25mph gusting to around 42mph, just walked the dog through the park where sizeable branches had broken off but that's about it.
