While South Ockendon is rain free, Tilbury has been getting heavy downpours of rain.

Was expecting more wind today, forecast was for gust exceeding 40mph but I guess that's later.

Bog standard showers here today. Certainly didn’t warrant any warning.

But I guess this all ties in with the low pressure systems into a storm name. Take me back to the 90s when today was a usual day in the British Isles before social media hype took over.

Pretty crazy day on the Sussex coastline.

Gale force winds and gusts to 50mph.

Couple of trees in leaf blown down locally.

This time last week it was 32c.

Probably shouldn’t need to wait too long before another record attempt

I've appreciated the the cool temps and rain after last week's record-breaking temps...but it does feel like summer has disappeared a little. It's a bit odd not watering much in high summer, in fact some plants are showing stress signs of being boggy.

The nights are noticeably starting to draw in now - sunset here is 8.52pm down from 9.24pm on the summer solstice 40 days ago. But it will take a lot shorter time for us to lose another 32 minutes of evening light - we'll reach that on the 18th of August.

Lovely afternoon at Heathrow, 26C with long sunny spells and light winds. That’s more like it ?? Feel sorry for those up north that are suffering the awful effects of flooding.

25.6c here this afternoon from a 'col' synoptic, astounds me of recent years just how easily we get to 25 degrees or higher under non-plume events...worrying!

Today it has been a battle of the clouds between cumulus and stratocumulus on which cloud will dominate the sky. Stratocumulus has won and has filled 3/4 of the sky.  The temperature now is 23.2°C at 19.07 along with 54% humidity.  The barometer pressure is steady at 1016.3.

I am still waiting for a good soaking of rain for my back garden.
