Some PWS readings definitely broke the all time record in a few areas, but they arent officially trusted by the Met Office.

Walked into St Neots from the outskirt villages....and it definitely felt hotter on the concrete square in the centre by a few degrees - reflective heat maybe....but then I could be feeling hotter from walking.......

People in St Neots  were saying a local weather station had reported a max of 39C...but what and where is this magical station!?! .... I was too sweaty to even think straight tbh

A high of 37c here in Peterborough, and many others across the Fens reaching the same with Cambridge at 38c.

seems the rain shower didn’t have much impact on the maximum recorded.

What is the all time temperature record ?

I’m hoping it won’t be broken today or for a long time to come if I’m being honest.

Not sure what the exact value was, but Met Office shows Northolt was 38c at 16:00

And interestingly has just been removed... perhaps the MO are verifying it as we speak?

I'm in Spalding so not far from you. Big problems at Peterborough train station with overhead wires damaged due to heat. I work in glasshouses and got sent home at 2 thank god

Met Office said the record could still be broken when smaller sites bring in recordings over the next few days.

On a separate but relevant note ... If PWS readings were reliable ..... the all time record was broken in the Sandy/Biggleswade/Potton (39C/ 104f + ) area (these areas missed the cloud, rain which stopped st neots beating the record  going east over towards Cambridge....so question is.

Any Met office smaller stations in that area?

Looks like I'm in a direct firing line for that storm over the Channel. I can imagine that as it hits land its going to blow.

Thence over London and East Anglia if they hold together.

Assuming the main scattering of thunderstorms over the channel now continues in the same trajectory, east sussex, mid and western side of kent ,and eastern side of london looks to be in the firing line

I just heard some thunder in Eastbourne, checking the radar it looks like we could be in the firing line.
