Just had a rapid drop of 0.3c... think 37.9c could be my top temp today. So close yet so far

38.2c in the end here, no cigar .  All good fun though!

Yeah a few bits here now and can't get out of the 37's so think its over for here now given the time but quite an experience, much better from the garden than on the tubes like last time!

Somewhere in Cambs that avoided the cloud will have definitely equalled or beaten the record officially, I'd be shocked if not. Will be interesting to hear the reports later.

Temps on a downward spiral here now despite the sun full blasting it’s rays. 37.4c so it’s either Cambs or possibly Cavendish.

Just had two bits of high cirrus cloud play with the sun and there is one more bit to do the same in about 5 mins or so.... but I’m still sitting at 37.9c! Surely Cambs has done or equalled the record?

Just need an official station in the right place now...

Official stations will read quite a bit under most amateur ones as they don't shade or protect the equipment well enough.  In my area, I've seen cheaper amateur stations read under what the top-of-the range station at Weatherquest's base on the UEA campus shows.

37.7 °C has been recorded at Kew Gardens and Writtle, Essex.  My money is on these two doing 38.7°C.

Snap, back to 37.2c now.  It's been like snaked and ladders today

Attention turning back to hoping for some more storms later, might be pushing it so soon after Tuesday night though!!

Yeah, Heathrow also has a decent clearence now for the next hour with only probably 2/8th cloud cover feeding in. I'm an hour downstream and still only around 2/8th's cover (well somewhere between 2 and 3/8ths) so Heathrow has a solid hour of that to work with at least before temps naturally start to slip away a little into the late afternoon and early evening.

I’m sitting at 37.2c after falling to 37.1c... here’s hoping for one last push but think it’s a big ask now. Yes my thoughts are turning towards this evening too!

Cambridge airport METAR 38 degrees

looking around at airport temps in the area...a sweet spot sadly was definitely St Neots-Cambridge strip but that load of cloud really dented chances!  doh

Well... It's safe to say, that i've never felt heat of this magnitude and nature before; I just popped to Tesco's, to feed my crippling biscuit addiction. I was in there for only around 6 minutes. When I left the shop, it was like getting slapped by a hairdryer from the plunging depths of hell. The light wind that we have is hot, too. And then... then... The sun came out. And blimey, did the heat multiply by x100,000, or what...? the only event that even remotely comes close to this is 1st July 2015. Even just gently strolling down my road, caused me to sweat profusely under my arms. The air is so thick, it's almost hard to breathe. My fan has become rather redundant, as my room is 30.3c, so it's just blowing around the hot air.

I will remember this for years to come. And, if we don't get a thunderstorm from this, then I'll be truly astonished.

Down to 37c with a lot More high cloud coming in to play and restricting temps... watch out Cambs, they’re coming east towards you so 38c maybe the high there. Despite all the cloud and shower events this afternoon, it looks like Heathrow is on track to get very close to the record now.

Probably.  Dan tells me he has no way of knowing whether it's rounded-up to 38 from, say 37.6 or something, or whether its rounded-down.
