Sunny and roasting hot, easily the hottest conditions I have experienced in the UK, was out of the country for August 2003 and lived south of Beccles in 2006 so never got close to the hottest place in that heatwave.

I'm in Cambridge in a lovely air conditioned office but just went across the road for lunch and I can see why the record could break here! We were in Lanzarote 2 weeks ago and it wasn't even this hot

Well three stations are at 35.9C (the obvious 3!)  so plenty of chances still to break the all time record as well in any one of those places. Suspect multiple places will be breaking the July record within the next 30-45 minutes.

Humidity is visibly on the up here as slight haze on edges of a totally blue sky.....could just be evaporation effect from drying land though (land had decent mositure content before today)

walking in countryside near st neots

Just hit 37.0c but now got some cloud about to arrive .  Sat 24 suggest it won't be much but it will probably dent the chances here now.

Also upto 34.5c now, which is a 3C increase from when the cloud cover lifted up about an hour ago. So I'd suggest if you include a similar rise for Heathrow before the cloud cover increases.

Plenty of high 34s and 35s out there at the moment.

Currently raining and back down to 25c on the coast, northwesterlies can sometimes produce higher temps here...

Cloud coming in over north London which has brought it down from 36.4 to 36.1. Should get another run at a record before about 3pm I hope?

It’s quite something going from a 4 degree room to 36 in the space of 20 seconds

Cambridge looks like its 37, record is gonna go!

Paris has just set a new record of 40.6c.

My nearest met office site @ RAF Benson has also just broken its all time record of 35.6c set in Aug 1990. It is currently 36c there.
